    Ash Wednesday

As my Priest told me, the Baptized are permitted to receive ashes. That applies even if you were baptized by a minister not formally united to the Catholic Church. The non-baptized should not receive ashes. (That is what I have been told.)

    What To Do?

Hey, I will be in a small group meeting with the Cardinal on Wednesday. Any messages you want me to pass along? ;)

    Does anyone...

I did live near one for four years. Went to Mass there a few times.

    Absolutely gorgeous Church.

I live here in Chicago, and St. John Cantius is definitely one of the most popular parishes in the city. I know that the Cardinal especially likes it. If you want to see amazing liturgy, it is the best place to go. I don't want to rain on parades, but in my opinion, it isn't really that...

    Eastern-Rite Questio n

The Ruthenians are definitely the most popular, especially if you live in Ohio, Pennsylvania, or New Jersey. They usually fast in the same manner as the Orthodox.

    Healing of the SSPX rift?

I tend to agree. I am not sure I want groups able to celebrate the Mass against the wishes of the local ordinary.

    Mantillas

Bible: Women should cover their heads. Church until very recently: Women should cover their heads. . . . Church now: silent on the matter Bible: Women should cover their heads.

    Mantillas

I voted yes for many of the same reasons that I think nuns should wear full habits. 1) It draws a small amount of attention and inspires reverance. (I personally do not find nuns distracting at Mass, btw.) 2) It promotes modesty, which is not just tied to societal standards. And who would...

    Is Scripture Infallible?

So, it seems that some say that the Bible is infallible, but other say, no it is only inerrant. I suppose that most here believes that it is at least inerrant, right? The point of this thread, which hasn't really come through yet, is how both sides, in some way might be right. I would...

    Is Scripture Infallible?

If Scripture were infallible, then you could possibly expect an answer if you asked it a question. If it were inerrant, then you could refer to it confident that it contained nothing but Truth. So, is Scripture infallible? I am interested in different views, but I don't think that I have...

    Mary, divine, or mundane?

I don't think that this was answered. Any sin would be in rejecting a revealed, infallibly taught Dogma of Christ's Church. If the Dogma has previously been universally held but not dogmatically pronounced, you would not have had the specific opportunity to dissent sinfully.

Throwing out the Traditions taught by Word.

Btw, I don't think that there is anything wrong with asking forgiveness for doing that which you may not realize you are doing. If, unbeknowst to me, I have offended anyone or sinned against anyone through my posts, I am sorry. Please forgive me.

Throwing out the Traditions taught by Word.

Before I became Catholic, I was taught that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God. I still believe this, but of course, the Word most appropriately describes the Logos, Christ, the Second Person of the Holy Trinity. To a lesser extent, it describes Holy Scripture, inspired by God and recorded...

Throwing out the Traditions taught by Word.

I was taught by word that the Bible is the Word of God.
