    School

:wave:If you don't mind my asking, when you talk about a test score you don't want, what would that score be? In other words, what is the lowest you're willing to accept? I ask this because when I went back to college, a 95 on a test or essay would disappoint me.. I'm just wondering if you...

Ouch! Oh my word it hurts.

I know this is a late and obsolete reply, but it may help someone who is reading this. A few months ago, I had a splinter that stubbornly refused to come out, and I soaked it in hot salt water. I was amazed at how easily it came out after that. I've heard recommendations of Epsom Salt, but I...

    Is It True???

I'm sure there are many IBC's that would support and pray for your son. When my son was in Iraq, I appreciated every prayer that was prayed for him, and the members of our SB church prayed for him more than I will ever know. Your son can also have a loving church that will pray for him instead...

    Merged with another church before?

Wow! I'm glad that merger didn't occur! I'm sure God allowed this for a purpose. Y'all may want to be well-versed in your by-laws (which you may very well be). I've heard of preachers coming into a church and claiming to be CEO and Untouchable, Unaccountable Boss, and a good set of by-laws...

    Witnessing to Jehovah Witnesses

Yes, they can be remarkable sometimes.

    Witnessing to Jehovah Witnesses

How interesting. Years ago, when my son was 2 or less, two JW ladies came to the door and said it was pretty cold out there. I allowed myself to get into an argument with them, although it was very civil and not vicious or anything like that. This was almost 20 years ago and I was far less...

My voice is much deeper than you think.

I have a deep voice too, but certainly not the deepest I've ever heard. :) Richard, you can record your voice for us, ya know. Low voices are cool; can you sing bass?

    Calling all Louisianians....

I was at a satellite live televised showing of the Beth Moore Conference on the date that you wrote that post. It was held at our church, and we received word of a tornado warning in the area. I later heard that Bossier got hit.

    Beth Moore

I saw it, and it was great. We were having very bad weather, tornado warnings even, and only lost about 8 or so minutes of it when a heavy cloud got in the way. They said that about 150,000 women were watching. There were 4000 in the local church in Tyler where they were.

    Question to English Teachers.

Yeah, I use "one" sometimes in writing.

    Question to English Teachers.

I see now that "they' has been commonly used for longer than I thought. I'll continue to usually use he or she (one or the other, not the awkward combination of both), since that is also accepted, and I am most comfortable with it. However, even though I don't care for the sound of "they" as a...

    Question to English Teachers.

Okay Naomi and uh...Dwarf, I am looking up some things and hmm...learning some things. I'll get back to you probably later today. I have errands to run and a painting to finish.

    Question to English Teachers.

Naomi, I'll have to plead ingnorance on the statement that the singular "they" has been in use for hundreds of years. Could you point me to a reference or two? I'd like to improve my ignorance to knowledge ratio just a little bit.

    Question to English Teachers.

Well, strictly speaking for myself, I don't use "they" as a singular pronoun. If things are migrating in that direction a few years from now, it might not be an issue. For now, I don't care for the sound if it. Of course, I'm from the old school. For instance, I do not pronounce the "t" in...

    Question to English Teachers.

Well, that does make it easier and less awkward. During my first college life (back in the 70's, which are the olden days to some), we were still using the masculine pronoun to go along with "each" and "every." The use of "they" as a singular prounoun was scandalous. The writers handbook...

    Question to English Teachers.

Be that as it may, a few years ago when I was taking college English courses, the teacher told us not to use "they" as a third person singular pronoun, probably because "they" is plural. I suppose the best thing for a student to do would be to ask the instructor what to use.
