    A question for athiests

I think, for me, it's the whole disbelief in the existence of deities thing that makes me an atheist.

    Language Origin

That topic is incredibly complex. I do not have the money to send you my anthropology text books, but if you'd like to understand how language develops you'll need to read something like a text book. I thought that you, having approached this subject, would have had at least a preliminary...

    Races

There is only ethnicity. Race does not exist beyond the human race.

    Think about it

What is the point of discussion if you are so firmly convinced you are correct that nothing can change your mind?

Good reason to be an atheist?(moved from Christian Appologetics)

I know, it's an old OP, but these questions always get my goat. Desire has nothing to do with being an atheist. I don't want to not believe deities exist. I simply cannot believe deities exist, so I'm an atheist. Wha...? There's a moral imperative to have a religious belief? That makes no...

    Worldview...Everyone Has One

I'd like to give you some feedback on this. On the first two sentences: excellent attitude to take. I would extend your observation to all people--not just Christians. I am not sure it is possible to completely understand what motivates another person to hold his or beliefs, but the attempt...

    Language Origin

I am missing how either of these points are problematic. As language is a human social development, children not raised in a human society will not gain language. However, humans, like all great apes, are social animals--so this is not a problem in most cases (that's why feral children work...

    Worldview...Everyone Has One

I think you have the rule of grammar properly applied in this case. This is a pretty interesting question (IMHO). I think geography will always play a very large part in shaping one's worldview, but the increasing inter-connectedness of worldwide communication must have a pretty substantial...

    Worldview...Everyone Has One

My cosmology does not account for the existence of the self or other. As I've progressed along my own spiritual path I've come to understand that the Four Noble Truths are something I can agree with (more or less--I would probably tweak 1 and 4 a bit). 1. Life means suffering. 2. The origin...

    Language Origin

It shows the arrival of language coincides with the mutation of specific genes and that without the mutation of these specific genes language would not be possible. Since language is a social behavior it cannot be learned once the plasticity of the brain starts to solidify. That is, the neural...

    Does faith require an object?

You believe it is true that it is not this or not that. Therefore you have faith that the proposition is not predicated in some particular way. Faith need not affirm. Faith merely allows belief or non-belief in the truth of a proposition.

You are welcome for the response, and I thank you in turn. I do wish to point that your question was not a moral one. Morality comes into play when you ask why I ought to do something instead of another. You asked a question about what I believe is wrong with humankind (why we have the...

    Does faith require an object?

It is my opinion that faith is our ability to accept the truth or falsity of a proposition. As such it is not necessary for there to be a real world object "out there" for faith to exist. So long as a proposition exists there is faith.

Are Internet discussion forums the answer?

Is spamming the hell out of internet forums with your half crocked and unoriginal ideas the answer?

Actually, I think my core beliefs help inform my response to your first question. Your second question seems nonsensical to me; what went wrong with what? If I were to guess at your meaning, I would assume that you mean something went wrong with humankind. If that's the case, I don't think...

    Language Origin

Human language can be linked to genetic mutation. FOXP2 seems to be responsible for, at least, our ability to communicate differently from our ape cousins. The first link is when the mainstream media picked up on it in 2002. I like the second link for the addendum that pushes the emergence of...

Introversion: "one of the biggest crimes in the world"

As the paradigm extrovert I don't think there is anything wrong with the introvert. My only problem with introverts is a lack of understanding. When I am in pain my first wish is to find someone, or a group of people, and vomit my woes all over them. I think better when I am with people...

Why make up your own religion???

How does your experience translate into 1) another person's happiness, and 2) the maturity, or lack thereof, of another person? Perhaps you are the one that needed to be more humble. I fail to see how your humility necessitates that other people ought to also take your perception of what it is...
