  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How Long have Humans Lived on Earth?

Many creationists firmly believe that the earth cannot be more 6,000 years old. I am not going to discuss the age of the universe but I will discuss the development of civilization on earth. When was fire domesticated? “ Here we present evidence of fire-making on a 400,000-year-old buried...

    Does Open Carry Cause Problems?

Those who say that open carry of guns causes no problems should consider something that happened in Jacksonville, FL, last December. Deputies pulled a man over and ordered him out of the car. He had a gun in a holster. The Deputies decided that was legal. (I’m not so sure.) Still, they did not...

What Would Jesus Say About Vaccines?

Some criticize vaccines, or reject them entirely, then tell us that God is on their side. I don’t think so. Jesus heals a leper and says, “Show yourself to the priest.” (Luke 5:12-14) The Jewish priesthood at the time functioned as the health department, among other things. Jesus did not say...

The US Senate Report on the Mass Shooting at Ft. Hood

Recently, there was a mass shooting at Ft. Stewart, in south Georgia, which injured five soldiers. This happened on the morning of August 6. Mass shootings on military bases are thankfully rare. It calls to mind the massacre at Ft. Hood by Nidal Hasan, an Army psychiatrist, on November 5, 2009...

Thessalonians 4 Does Not Teach a Rapture Separate from the Second Coming

In my lifetime, Protestant Christianity has been invaded by a bizarre doctrine of “rapture,” the notion that Christians should expect a “rapture” instead of the Second Coming of Christ. When I was a teenager, no one doubted that the Parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgins was about the Second...

The New Pope Isn’t Going to Solve Any Problems

The American media is thrilled that the Roman Catholic Church now has an American Pope. They are following his every word to see what his policy will be. Of course, the media is far more interested in what the Pope says about international events and political figures than anything he says about...

    Revelation Disproves Rapture

I find belief in a “rapture,” separate from the Second Coming, baffling. No verse in the Bible says anything about God removing His people from a world where political events are still taking place. Where would we expect to find evidence of a “rapture”? The Book of Revelation is the most...

    The Deaconess Phoebe

Paul commends Phoebe in Romans 16:1-2. Romans 16 is the last chapter of Romans and it is devoted to a series of greetings. I am not sure when Phoebe was first called a Deaconess, but the phrase “Deaconess Phoebe” seems to be familiar to most Christians. If anyone thinks that a “Deaconess” is...

If Women Can’t Speak, They Can’t Sing Either

I Corinthians 14:34, or 14:33-35, in context, is often taken to mean that women cannot preach because they must remain silent in church. I have argued in the past that this is a hasty conclusion, as can be seen by looking at the context. Here is something else. The Greek word translated as...

What Jesus Said About Adam and Eve

I hear Christians talking about Adam and Eve. What did Jesus say about Adam and Eve? “Adam” is not mentioned in the Gospels. “Eve” is not mentioned in the Gospels. The “Garden of Eden” is not mentioned in the Gospels. Doesn’t this suggest that the Adam and Eve story is less important than many...

Trump vs. Ukraine, or Trump vs. Zelensky

President Trump recently told Ukraine’s President Zelensky that he “didn’t have the cards.” Three years into all-out war with Russia, things are a mess. Zelensky was told to give up, and he rightly responded, “We’re not playing cards.” By the same logic, Donald Trump would have told George...

    Impoundment of Funds

The Trump Administration is impounding funds voted by Congress, to the point of shutting down entire agencies without Congressional approval. Is there any precedent for this? For much of American history, Presidents occasionally choose not to spend available funds. Then Richard Nixon started...

Donald Trump and the Panama Canal

President Trump says that we need to take back the Panama Canal for military reasons. The Panama Canal was completed in 1914. Did Paul contradict Judges Four?

A Sitting President Can’t be Prosecuted???

Recently we have been told that the President can’t be prosecuted for a crime. This is new to me. All my life we were told that the President had to obey the laws the same as everyone else. Let’s try a thought experiment. The Vice-President shoots the President, who dies on the scene. So the...
