I would have no problem with a gay high school that was privately funded. Using the tax payer's money to fund it is wrong. I'm sure you'd feel the same way if the city of New York opened a "Christian" High School. Oh, all students would be welcome, but it would still be an all-Christian high school. Funded by the state. W00T!

edited to add: though I still wouldn't put *my* gay kid in an all-gay school. IMO, it gives the truly bigoted, dangerous people in the world, an easy target.

You would be amazed at how many private Christian schools receive government money. This school is partially funded from private grants, not even primarily state funded. The 3 million figure quoted is for renovations to the old school they are using. The Hetrick-Martin Institute is managing and financing the school, in conjuction with the New York Department of Education, and private grants from other sources. Oh, Lady, this is sad, I'm not even sure I believe this school is right, but I am defending it because I don't agree with the statements made! Sigh.

I went to a private Christian school because my parents wanted me to have a Christian based education.

The analogy between a Christian school and a homosexual school is unfounded. The establishment clause forbids establishment of religion, and that is a specific proscription aimed at religion only. There is no general constitutional principle forbidding government from doing things that some find morally offensive.

No, it is the establishment of a national church(e.g. Angilican Church), not the endorsement of a religon. And I believe it is more than some; see post "baclash on gay issues"

You can say that if you like Megachihuahua, but it is inconsistent with the actual text of teh Constitution as well as the original understanding of several key founders.

Note also, that even if your rewritten version of the Establishment Clause were valid, it would still be a diffrent argument about a very specific principle. The analogy is still flawed.

I won't be buying into any alternative lifestyle. Homosexuality is not morally right.

Homosexuality isn't something for you to buy, our lives aren't up for sale.

It is a choice. One chooses to act on their impulses. That's like saying child molestors don't have a choice-they must molest children. Or murderers don't have a choice-they must go out and kill someone. And before you get all hot and bothered by my analogy, don't. I am not equating homosexuals with murderers or child molestors. I am merely stating an instance were impulses or urges are evident.

You can choose wether or not to have sex, but you can't choose wether or not you are Gay.

And once again, you choose to twist my words to fit your agenda. My point is that for the majority of people in the world, the members of NAMBLA repulse us. As was the case with homosexuality. 10-20 years ago, there were no "gay pride" days at Walt Disney World. A person's sexuality was not shoved down the mainstream American mouth-so to speak. I merely pointed out that once Pandora's Box is opened, no one can say how far it will go. Who's to say that the world won't accept NAMBLA in 10 years?

If they do, it won't be because of homosexuals. You can't compare the love of two consenting adults to molesting a child, there is no comparasion.

And you seem to not notice that this school IS about special rights. If it weren't, it wouldn't be making headlines. Hey, how come the new high school opening up in my town isn't making headlines? Because it does not cater to a specific group-that's why.

This school is making headlines, because the word Gay was spoken, and everyone turned their heads.

Special rights apply. *shrug* If you choose to ignore that so you can sleep better at night, so be it. If the city of New York were to spend tax payer money, and open a Christian school-where everyone can apply, but it will cater to Christians-I'm sure you'd have a different opinion.

The difference is the school does not exclude anyone, Christian schools do.

No, indicating that mainstream America is not ready for the legalization of homosexual marriages. America will speak through the polls on election day. Did you not notice that the Republicans control the House and the Senate? Does that not tell you something?

Do you think there are no GLBT republicans?

http://www.lcr.org/

Log Cabin Republicans is the nation's largest gay Republican organization, with state and local chapters nationwide, a full-time Washington office and a federal political action committee. Liberty Education Forum is a educational think tank - based in Washington, D.C. - that is dedicated to new ideas and new directions for the gay community, with a centrist approach.

Oh please. That I was born with it garbage just does not fly. The pedophiles say they were "born that way" too. So do we give them a school too? Oops, they frequent all the schools. Accepting a life of sexual deviance does not make it good.

Are thes pedophiles you speak of the same ones that preach in churches?

Once again you are comparing a sane loving human being to a child molestor, there is no comparasion.

How about because this is a fee country that guarantees freedom and the pursuit of happiness to ALL. I exist because of God, and God loves all of his children even those who use his name as an excuse to discriminate.

It's nice to see that someone here doesn't mince words, none of this Prince of Peace bunk. His God is a God of hatred and he knows it. The honesty is refreshing.
