CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

He's a popular talk show host with liberals. But he will on occasion actually criticize the Democratic Party. I believe it will be of great benefit to the nation to have more Republicans and Democrats who are willing to criticize their own.

I think it would be of great benefit to the nation if all Americans acknowledged we already have some socialist polices in place thanks in large part to people like Franklin Roosevelt. Does the Republican Party want to roll these policies back? I think we know the answer to that.

Democratic Socialists of America propose radical overhaul of US govt
The Democratic Socialists of America want to fight for working-class Americans by offering free healthcare and childcare. It has some other ideas too.
I don't trust Congress to elect a president. Nor do I support getting rid of the Senate. It is the only real say that farmers and other rural people have, essentially the power will go even more to the big cities.

They are considered to be idiotic by quite a few people. And I'll include myself in that group. If I want a thoughtfull, considered, unbiased critique on the Democrats then Maher is not on my radar.

I don't know enough about him. Certainly haven't listened to him or read anything he's written. I was aware of him a couple of months back when he and Uygur (from Young Turks) were banned entry to the UK for a couple of speaking events (Oxford union being one of them). I didn't agree with the banning - a matter of free speech. I've listened to Uygur on ocassions, but Pike..? An unknown quantity.Maybe you would listen to someone else?
