It's just simply an ID like most everyone has. One might as well say there's a driving tax and a checking account tax and so on. It's not a real or legitimate reason Democrats have for fighting against the SAVE act.

Yes. That has always been the case since that is the argument of current GOP officials as why the SAVE act is required.

To answer your question, enacting such laws is to prevent illegal aliens and felons (or any other prohibited groups) from voting.

Heritage Foundation has a running tabulation of voting fraud, your examples are not the case.

I am fine with either addressing both at once or letting things stand ad they are, how about you? The issue I keep seeing is that people on the right are upset about one but refuse to address the second. If you had an act that secured voting without disproportionately affecting people you would get less push back, yes? So why not go that route?

If I have to show proof of citizenship it will be inconvenient for me, I don’t know where my birth certificate is. I guess I will have to get a passport. It may take some effort but it can be done.
It’s the same with obtaining ID.
Every attempt at securing elections is not automatically an effort to suppress the minority vote

It just conveniently works out to that desired goal.
I got my passport decades ago, and I think a birth certificate or naturalization certificate is required.

Or, just maybe, leave things alone. Let states decide how to conduct elections just like the constitution lays out.
The last thing we need is an executive branch that literally tried to steal the 2020 election dictating how elections should be ran.
