Mamdani Publishes Names, Addresses of NYC Homeowners Facing New Pied-à-Terre Tax
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani's administration has unveiled a database listing property owners impacted by the new pied-à-terre tax aimed at luxury second homes. , US News, Times Now
The administration of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has published a searchable database identifying property owners whose homes could be affected by the state's new pied-à-terre tax, prompting criticism over privacy and security concerns.
The database, released by the city's Department of Finance, lists the names and addresses of owners of non-primary residences across the five boroughs that are valued at more than $1 million. The tax is intended to target luxury second homes, but critics argue the list includes many properties that may not qualify.
Seems like a pretty irresponsible move...
"Hey, here's a list of people who have money, and here's the addresses of residences they have that most likely won't have anyone in them" seems like a "Hey burglars, if you're looking for a property that likely has some items of value, and nobody currently in them, here's some good options"
Apologies for the selected sources for this story...but as usual, the mainstream outlets aren't really covering it.
