• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Democratic candidates: You be the judge.

They absolutely are. Open your eyes and pay attention to what they say.
I’m paying attention to what they are, a fringe group of the near non existent and impotent American left.

I wish you were right but I fear you are not.The rise in numbers of these type of candidates does not support your claim.

The following history lesson is sourced from Google.
Google is a parasitic data seller, not a historian. (We could have a history lesson taken from the rise of Google, but that wouldn't involve...)
Does any thing here ring a bell.? This has all been done before. Set oneself up as the savior of common man , the down trodden worker. Promise them utopia and in the process of duping the people seize total power. The use of the word “democracy “ by these socialist, communist is a complete joke.

“Hitler rose to power through a combination of economic crisis, political maneuvering, and legal appointments: economic collapse from the Great Depression, powerful public speaking that exploited anger over World War I, and his appointment as chancellor in January 1933 followed by the destruction of German democracy. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
... Nazi's (the original kind)
Crisis and the Rise of the Nazi Party
We are not talking about Nazi's. Get a grip.
    • Post-War Anger: Germany's loss in World War I and the harsh Treaty of Versailles created widespread resentment. [1, 2]
    • Joining the Party: Hitler joined a small political group in 1919 that became the National Socialist German Workers' (Nazi) Party, using strong public speeches to become its leader. [1, 2]
    • Failed Coup: A violent attempt to take over the government in 1923 (the Beer Hall Putsch) failed, landing Hitler in jail, where he changed tactics to win power through legal elections instead. [1, 2, 3]
    • Great Depression: The economic crash of 1929 caused massive job losses in Germany, driving desperate voters to support extremist groups like the Nazis. [1, 2, 3]

Seizing Control
    • Appointment as Chancellor: Gaining strong numbers in parliament, Hitler was legally appointed chancellor by President Paul von Hindenburg in January 1933, as conservative leaders thought they could control him. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
    • Emergency Powers: A fire at the parliament building in February 1933 gave Hitler an excuse to suspend civil liberties and blame communists. [1, 2]
    • End of Democracy: The Enabling Act of March 1933 allowed Hitler to pass laws without parliament, effectively turning Germany into a dictatorship by 1934. [1, 2, 3]”
In the US the DSA has clearly stated their goals. It would serve us well to just take them at their word!

It isn't the left that is consolidating power into one party, one branch of the government and one man along with his family and associates.

What is the Hans version of that part of history. If you are going question one version provided your own correction.

Seems like I have heard a lot of Nazi rhetoric from the left. Maybe you could get a grip. We are talking about the end result of this DSA movement.

Trump occupies too much space in many people’s heads. To be fair there are a few on the left speaking against this DSA movement.

Oh, obviously they aren't consolidating power into those things, because they're not in power.

But when they were? Yes, they were absolutely consolidating power into the presidency and the person occupying it. The United States has been on a presidential power ramp for quite a while now, but it really accelerated with Obama, well exemplified by his famous "pen and phone" comment. Trump built off of that and went further, Biden went further than that, and then Trump came back and went further than his prior term and Biden. There's a good chance this trend will continue, and soon enough we'll find ourselves thinking "can we dial back presidential power to the more restrained behavior of Trump's second term?"

It's why I think, despite them having suggested a number of crazy things, the Democratic Socialists of America are correct in that the President should be chosen by the legislature (again, this was the idea James Madison proposed). Not that it's likely to happen, the constitution is notoriously hard to amend, but it would immediately solve a lot of problems of presidential power.

I see nothing of substance in this post. Just more of the usual personal attacks which are the common tactic used when facts cannot be refuted.

I noticed you are not concerned with “ arguing facts “ but just artfully avoid them.

Uh huh. The "I'm rubber you're glue argument" is a solid one.

Where did they state the goals you ascribe to them, exactly? I've provided their website and quoted directly from it. I've found nothing in there saying what you've characterized them as saying.

Here's a fact.

One can be both a socialist and a patriotic Constitution-loving American who believes in democracy and republican values.

Just because you read the word "socialist" and you clutch your pearls and think Stalin is coming to eat your puppies or whatever only means you don't actually have a clue just how broad a spectrum of ideas "socialism" entails.

A socialist and a communist aren't the same thing.

You'd know all of this if you cared about facts.

Here's an example of a "socialist" idea: tax-payer funded public education.

Is everyone that believes in and supports public education plotting on overthrowing America and opening up gulags and install a Stalinist-Leninist totalitarian state? No. But that's precisely the sort of fear mongering you want to do here.

Or, I don't know, perhaps you do think public education is some Bolshevik ploy--I don't know everything being broadcast by the MAGA ministry of propaganda.

So when one of their leaders says the ultimate goal is communism you believe that as well? DSA throws around the word Democracy as bait for the uninformed or those that believe the utopian lies. When that ultimate goal is eventually achieved democracy will be a distant memory.

Post #89 Post # 124. When leaders in the party are actually honest and clearly state the ultimate goal “ which is not always clearly stated on the web site” you should believe them . The web site cannot be so bold as a few overzealous impatient party leaders who occasionally let the cat out of the bag.

Only in your dreams.
Just because you read the word "socialist" and you clutch your pearls and think Stalin is coming to eat your puppies or whatever only means you don't actually have a clue just how broad a spectrum of ideas "socialism" entails.
Utopia in a bottle.
A socialist and a communist aren't the same thing.
Agreed, but one can lead to the other. When one of the spokesmen for the party actually says that is the goal, you should at least consider the possibility.
You'd know all of this if you cared about facts.
Back at ya.

Here is a fact for you. The education system in this country has been used to “dumb down” our youth by rewriting or ignoring history, demonizing conservative thought, pushing liberal agendas such as transgender ideology as mainstream and normal. The list could go on but you get the point, “The MAGA ministry of propaganda” how funny. A charge from many who believe men can have babies , government can spend your money better than you, terminating the life of unborn babies is a constitutional right, government should own and or run corporations, the rich should be taxed into poverty to fund liberal agendas, defunding the military????? I guess the logic there is if you join the enemy they have no need to attack you. Do you really want to have a discussion about propaganda?

Your projection of superiority is a bit boring. If you could actually make a case for the benefits of socialism and or communism, we could at least have a discussion.

If no one stands against them they will be!
They’re going to blunder into the super majority in congress required for their grandiose agenda unless people are wailing about imagined Bolshevik revolution on the horizon?

What makes you think I am here to make the case for either?
