  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No. (For the billionth time.)

Yesterday, the Subcommittee posted this video from January 6, 2021, which was recorded by Alexandra Pelosi and provided directly to the Subcommittee by HBO. In the video former Speaker Nancy Pelosi stated "I take responsibility" for the security failures of the Capitol that day.

“As Nancy Pelosi was being evacuated from the Capitol on January 6, 2021 she admitted that, as Speaker of the House, she was responsible for the security failures, and for not having the National Guard at the Capitol,” said Chairman Loudermilk.

False: Fact-checking Pelosi’s role with National Guard on Jan. 6
No member of Congress has the authority to activate the District of Columbia National Guard. Only the president, Defense secretary and U.S. Army secretary do.

I was there about a month ago and it was fine. I don’t recall seeing any guardsmen at all.
A million dollars/day don’t go far from the barracks no more?

What price do you put on lives saved?
So you want the national guard everywhere on the streets of America? Get over yourself.

We know murder rates have been coming down nationally -- the Guard has been busy weeding the parks of DC and picking up trash.

National Guard’s DC deployment has had no ‘measurable effect’ on violent crime: Report

The presence of more than 2,000 National Guard troops in Washington, D.C., since Aug. 2025 has had “no measurable effect on violent crime,” according to a new report by the Niskanen Center.

The researchers described the deployment as “an expensive tool” used in “the wrong places for the wrong types of crime.”

“A uniformed presence in tourist corridors and transit hubs is unlikely to interrupt a dispute between individuals with preexisting ties on their own turf. The Guard’s footprint was simply misaligned with the geography of violence.”

[But it] "produced a significant reduction in property crime, and it did so quickly, which matters when residents and businesses are demanding visible action.”

The authors went on to argue that a more targeted, data-driven MPD mobilization could have achieved “comparable or better outcomes” at a fraction of the expense for taxpayers.

Trump, for his part, said last week there were no plans for the National Guard to leave the nation’s capital anytime soon. The administration is requesting an additional 1,500 Guard troops ahead of America’s 250th birthday events in the district.

The Force is with him: D.C. settles with man who protested National Guard using Darth Vader’s theme song

Sam O’Hara said he was detained and handcuffed after a guardsman complained to police.

The terms of the agreement were not immediately disclosed, but the American Civil Liberties Union, which represents demonstrator Sam O’Hara in the case, said in a press release that he was receiving compensation. The group did not immediately respond to a request for more details.

“In the Star Wars franchise, The Imperial March is the music that plays when Darth Vader or other dark forces enter a scene or succeed in their dastardly plans. It is also the soundtrack of Sam O’Hara’s protest against the National Guard deployment in D.C.,” his lawsuit said.

“The law might have tolerated government conduct of this sort a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away,” the suit said, .... “But in the here and now, the First Amendment bars government officials from shutting down peaceful protests.”

The National Guard recently awarded a $292 million contract to D.C.-based apartment-hotel company Placemakr for up to 2,000 apartment-style units for troops deployed in D.C.

The National Guard said the move is meant to provide more stable housing for troops — who are slated to be stationed in the nation’s capital until 2029 — while also saving money.

“This contract delivers stable, secure housing for our soldiers and Airmen while achieving significant cost savings for the government,” Monica Williams, executive director of acquisitions and the head of contracting activity for the National Guard Bureau, said in a statement.

National Guard troops had been staying in hotels across the region before the Placemakr contract.

While it may represent a savings over the past year of hotel costs, this is still a lot of money that We The People are shelling out for negligible benefits.

I think we can all agree that Pelosi has been wrong before right BPPLEE?

This is simply another example where she has incorrect information.

I'm so glad we DOGE'd a bunch of people into unemployment so we could spend the money on hotel rooms for service members who'd rather be home, sleeping in their own beds.
But does it help you to know that the two outcomes are that they are moved away from their family for absolutely no reason at all or that they will have to be moved away from thier family because they are going to be called upon to fire upon American citizens?

It does help me to know that. Families are a burden and it's nice to afford these periods of freedom, as brief as they may be, to the folks who sacrifice so much for our freedom.

because they are going to be called upon to fire upon American citizens?

I think you misspelled "invading hoards".

What are you talking about lives saved? ICE is KILLING people

Deadly shootings by ICE officers renew scrutiny of recruitment and training
Here in Minnesota two deaths were totally preventable. Mayor Frey knew the protesters would go after ICE, yet because of his political views he ordered police officers to stand down until a crime was committed. This was a continuation of the discrimination against those who are not allies of the Democratic Party. We saw such discrimination by the Biden people when they wouldn't help hurricane victims if they had a Trump sign in their yard. Had police officers been there they could have kept a buffer between ICE and those who wanted to interfere with ICE operations. Frey was happy to let violence happen. Interfering with a law enforcement operation puts everyone in the area in danger, and the two who ended up dead acted irresponsibly by doing so. But had not Mayor Frey discriminated they would likely be alive today. As I've said before, if anyone out there thinks ICE is acting improperly file a lawsuit for damages, but please don't interfere with active law enforcement operations.

So many words to say so very little. ICE is a joke of a paramilitary force. You know it too. You KNOW how poor the training is. You KNOW how poorly prepared they are. You KNOW how drastically these people are overpaid. That's going to attract low calibre candidates. And wouldn't you see it pan out as such.

lock schtep. Must move in lock schtep.

It's a tough job, roughly half don't make it through the academy and who wants to have mobs go after them? Demonizing hard-working American citizens because of politics needs to stop. I remember well how Joe Biden and his administration told the people that Homeland Security was whipping migrants, even when they knew the story was not true! ICE is trying to clean up a manmade disaster, 10 to 20 million entered our country in four years and human trafficking rose to a level not seen since the Civil War. We all should be thankful for the men and women who are just trying to do their jobs. We were on our way to losing our country.
