  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Not get away how? I said what I said. Nothing changes by being outraged or accusing me of hypocrisy.
You think Atheists can escape being associated with Stalin and Mao, while Christianity continues to be likened to Islsm? How dare you!

In Europe as in the USA the pattern on the left/LGTBQ community is more complicated than that. On the one hand they defend a marginalized sub group against discrimination and empathise with them. On the other there is a thing called homonationalism which is opposed to Muslim immigration per see. Personally I know a number of Muslim immigrants who are upstanding members of the community and just as welcome in Germany as I am as an immigrant here also. But radical Islamic groups are really being truer to their core texts and also they bring a more violent historical culture into the European mix.

Some suggest that Muslims are exactly the wake up call the continent needs to wake it out of its moral apathy and religious indifference. Others will defend Europe's comfort zone against all comers while not recognizing the power of the ethical rebuke that radical Muslims make against aspects of European society. Personally I find Muslims slightly less odious than atheists and far more real than most agnostics. At least they are in the only conversation worth having.

What you're describing here is the result of some "strange bedfellows" coalitions and political horseshoes.

In the US, here's the scorecard.

- The conservative fundamentalist Christians and LGBTQ community have beefs
- The conservative fundamentalist Christians and Muslim community have beefs
- The progressive left has an affinity for, and inclination toward, defending any group that their primary political opponents (the conservative fundamentalists) have beefs with.

...so they get lumped into the same political coalition. But in reality, if the conservative Christians and fundamentalist Muslims were aligned politically, progressive support for the Muslim community would fall off a cliff.

As far as the bit about atheists, I'll be happy to chime in here lol.

Atheism isn't an ideology, it's an absence of ideology. The link between communism and atheism (that another poster referenced) was a result of force in many cases, because the State didn't want any ideological competition. But there are plenty of free market atheists like myself that don't buy into the leftist/collectivist sales pitch.

The comparison doesn't have to be perfectly exact in order for atheists to be hypocrites when they liken Christianity to Islam. I'll certainly never forget this similarity, and will continue to remind atheists of their likeness to the murderers; Stalin and Mao, when they make Christian / Islam comparisons in the future.

...I'll make it popular. And you'll hate it.

Of course.

Islam is just "reformed" and "purified" Christianity & Judaism. Mohammed and his inner circle were fanatics who believed the basic god was real, but wanted to clean Christianity of its various blasphemies: "Polytheism" (3 gods), "God having a child", etc. and created a new scripture built from the earlier ones. They weren't the last ones to rework Christianity: Joseph Smith did it, the Unitarians reformed the Trinity and divinity of Jesus away as has others before them (and when I heard the "Word of God" at Mass, that's the way I generally understood things).

On another level, Islam, Christianity (all forms), Judaism, Samaritanism, and a few other small religions all derive from the same original god concept and are therefore considered "Abrahamic religions" and are in that way alike.

Finally, and most fundamentally, they are all religions with gods and dogmas and are therefore similar along with many other religions with different gods.

Stalin and Mao were communist dictators. Their "branches" of Communism and their dictatorial cult are often labeled with their names: Stalinism and Maoism. They have dogmas not so different from religions, but with out a divine being, just an adored human. In that way those dogmas are like religions which are also dogmas.

"Atheism" (no such thing) has no dogma.

An atheist, is someone who does not believe in any god. Nothing more, nothing less. The only way to get kicked out of the atheist club is to believe in a god. (Then you would be a theist, another category that does not have *a* dogma. Identifying as a "theist" says nothing about your philosophy or theology.)

How dare you!
Every day, all day.

By the same absurd token, you can also say that Satanism comes from Christianity, since it too is based on the gospels.

So by your own logic, Satanism should be likened to Christianity just as much as Islam is. Can't you see how ridiculous these comparisons are?

Atheists are still living in the shadow of Stalin and Mao in my view not to mention a broad endorsement of abortion- millions not hundreds.
Do you know which group of people have the most abortions?

"Stalinism" and "Maoism" is just atheism enriched with politics... All from the same tree.

The only seperation is the extent that politics are applied - and every atheist I know seems to have some sort of political opinion... So there's no real difference except for degrees and ratio's.

Like all other people.
You fail to see that atheists are a minority in the world, with 84% of the worlds current population having faith in some religion.... With that said, very few people are politicized atheists.. Like Mao, Stalin, or those of similar ilk.

Therefore, politicized atheists are very similar to Stalin and Mao in the grand scheme of things.

Satanists would be more accurately described as a heretical group within Christianity. Though I am not sure which group would reject that prospect more stridently.

I don't believe in your Satan (nor the Islamic version).
So by your own logic, Satanism should be likened to Christianity just as much as Islam is.
(Are you talking about people who actually think Satan is real, or the "joke" worship of "Satan" by atheists in the "Satanic Temple"?) I don't participate in any of these parody religions since I don't look good in a colander.
Can't you see how ridiculous these comparisons are?
I wouldn't use the words "absurd" and "ridiculous" around religion if I were you.

We are aware of the 84% that are wrong.

What's a "politicized atheist"?

You guys can't tell me these two wouldn't totally fit in with today's atheist left... These pictures are of Stalin and Mao, in their 100% original format, with only color added.. Original photos.

I've heard it worded a different way by some historians... that being, that Muhammed basically "ripped off" concepts from other religions when forming his own (hence the reason there are so many similarities and overlaps, some of which were pretty clumsy... to the level of Vanilla Ice's 'Ice Ice Baby' ripping off the beat from Queen's 'Under Pressure' -- but i can't take credit for that comparison, it was the historian being interviewed that said it)

But that small bit of factoid aside, I agree with what you said here.

Rob agrees with Hans...put in the books folks.

They'd fit in for ideological reasons, I don't really know that their "look" has anything to do with it.

Considering what a lot of the modern "Atheist left" looks like (if you're referring to some of the campus culture), they actually look far more respectable and less like someone who I'd cross the street to avoid talking to. (in fact, they wouldn't be too keen on the modern atheist left either...for reasons that wouldn't be politically convenient for modern leftists)

Dare I say, I wish I had "Young Stalin" hair. He looks way better there than he did in the "Tom Selleck porn stache" era.

So now you're limiting it to some nebulous "atheist left".

Where do you find these leftists who also identify as "atheists" as a group?
