We are to hear His voice and be attentive listeners….being subordinate to Him…and not be found by Him responding to what He says in envy, strife, wrath, contentions.
Unto all that obey (hear subordinately) Him, He is the author (cause) of AGE-LASTING salvation. The word for “eternal” here in Hebrews 5:9 is the transliterated Greek word “aiōnios” which means AGE-LASTING. Our salvation is in the here-and-now age we are living in. We shall not mortally perish but shall have an age-lasting life for the duration of this current age.
Heb 5:8-9 KJV
(8) Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
(9) And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal (AGE-LASTING) salvation unto all them that obey (HEAR ATTENTIVELY) him;
In the original Greek texts such as in verse John 3:16, the verb translated as "have" eternal life (AGE-LASTING life) is written in the present indicative active tense, denoting an immediate, continuous, and present truth.
We have an age-lasting life now in this current age. This is a PRESENT TENSE situation as this pertains to this current age we are living in. We do not mortally die (PERISH).
Those who are dying are perishing under the wrath of God. They are “preaching” that eternal life starts now but then will continue AFTER we die. This makes no sense at all as the following verses say that we do NOT PERISH. Perishing is mortally dying.
We have (PRESENT TENSE) age-lasting life. We shall NOT PERISH.
Joh 3:15-16 KJV
(15) That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have (PRESENT TENSE) eternal (AGE-LASTING) life.
(16) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have (PRESENT TENSE) everlasting life (AGE-LASTING LIFE).
Perishing means being removed mortally from this earth because of sin as Jesus here shows us in Luke 13. It doesn’t matter how we are removed….it is perishing because of sin (no matter what degree of sin).
Luk 13:1-5 KJV
(1) There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
(2) And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?
(3) I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
(4) Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?
(5) I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
He that believes on the Son has (PRESENT TENSE) age-lasting life.
Joh 3:36 KJV
(36) He that believeth on the Son hath (PRESENT TENSE) everlasting (AGE-LASTING) life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
We are to HEAR His Word that He speaks to us and believe on God who sent Him. Doing so gives us our mortal bodies age-lasting life...they that HEAR shall LIVE and not die. This is a now thing. It starts now in this age for the duration of this age.
There is NO mortal death for those who will HEAR and believe on Him that sent Him to speak to us. It does not get interrupted by our mortal death at all as we pass from death unto life.
Joh 5:24-25 KJV
(24) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath (PRESENT TENSE) everlasting life (AGE-LASTING LIFE) , and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
(25) Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.
We “have” (present tense) age-lasting life.

(47) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath (present tense) everlasting life (age-lasting life).
I “give” (present tense) them age-lasting life so that we shall never perish (mortally dying) INTO THE AGE….this present age. Many translations do not translate “into the age” as it did not fit into their narrative/interpretation.

(28) And I give (PRESENT TENSE) unto them eternal life (AGE-LASTING LIFE); and they shall never perish INTO THE AGE, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
We “have” (present tense) age-lasting life.
