CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm hoping that this afternoon championship match will truly be spectacular. Spain has the better overall team. But, I'm predicting that the Magic of Messi will be just barely enough for Argentina to win.

Spain dominated Argentina in a very defensive match. If it wasn't for the Argentina goalie, Spain would have easily scored 3 goals, instead of 1.

I should have said that Spain would have had 3 goals if the Argentina goalie didn't play as great as he did play today.

...after such a dominate performance, it would have been a travesty if Messi had managed to score a goal on a free kick in the closing minutes (he did try).
On another note: Some of the Argentine players behaved horribly after the loss. Paredes, in particular, played dirty and attacked a couple of the Spanish players after the final whistle.

As a neutral observer, this seems a flaw in the sport: its so hard to score, and great play is so infrequently rewarded, that luck plays too great a part in outcomes.
By neutral, I mean toward the sport itself.
Here's my report on the appeal of soccer:
Plusses:
-games are short
-very high skill level is demanded and its entertaining to watch those skills
-minimal equipment required
-ball is big enough, and the right color, to be visible
Minuses:
-so hard to score that luck comes into it too much. Great play is seldom rewarded.
-if I want "set pieces" where everything stalls out I can watch American football
-nausea inducing acting and diving seems to be required for success.
Talk about nausea inducing. Horrible way to end what was an overall quite a fun sports ball tournament.
