CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If there were no sin/bad/evil in the world, then it wouldn't ever be necessary, but as it is right now, we do still always have bad/evil/sinful people trying to kill/maim/harm/eliminate other people over one thing or another that differs from the way they see/view things constantly. Or over riches and/or resources, cause there's that as well, etc. Or sometimes a nation/people groups are on the verge of a collapse sometimes, and this can also cause them to do certain things also, etc. Run out of money or resources, or can no longer keep/support/maintain their societies at a certain level, things like that. Things like that can cause them to start looking at other places, etc.

Of course. Who knew that better than General Eisenhower? Surely you are aware that war doesn't occur in a vacuum? You even list many of the stressors that eventually lead to war. But you do not observe the obvious. These stressors need not always lead to war. Rational people can act to alleviate those stressors. Not all wars can be avoided. But many need not occur if rational people would act first. Instead of demonizing agencies like USAID or the UN or NATO, we should be focused on making those and others increasingly effective. The strategy of starting a war to avoid a war is as foolhardy as it sounds. Need I mention our current situation? Or Putin's quagmire? Or Israel's? How are those working out? How did Afghanistan work out? Viet Nam? It's too bad PC eliminated the Uncle Remus stories. The tar baby is the perfect metaphor for the consequences of starting a war.

I 100% completely agree with you on almost all of these points, and am not saying otherwise. I don't like people who don't even try to avoid a conflict before doing otherwise, etc. And maybe if I had more faith in humanity like you do, I could be as optimistic as you are maybe, etc. About reason prevailing, and all of that, etc. But as it stands right now, I don't, and don't even one bit at all anymore, so....? But I also will say that it's hard to be the one in charge/calling all of the shots in a sinful, fallen, evil/wicked world though, etc, and that we also don't need any leaders in charge anywhere that don't always feel the full weight of that though, etc. We used to have leaders like that in America and elsewhere, but it's beginning to quickly turn to where we won't ever from this point onward anymore, etc.

Thank you for these well thought and well expressed words. You make a lot of good points. I’d like to say more about two of them. One: ‘as optimistic’. Actually, I’m very glad for pessimists. They are more likely to see the horrid consequences of war and wisely reluctant to get on the side of the war mongers who promise all will be well after we destroy our enemies. Two: “it’s hard to be the one”. Yes. Very much so. Hence we need to seek wise leaders (not just Presidents, but all national leaders). The evidence of that wisdom needs to be a priority as we evaluate any candidate.
