  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sorry, I cannot break anonymity. I guarantee you haven't heard of us nor the other band. It all comes from 90's Austin scene connections those guys had.

You hate Trump. Got it. Didn't you have a joke 4 me?
If I didn't or did, it wouldn't matter for the topic. It's Trumps actions and how they made the US more unliked again. And unfortunately for the US team, that interference will get made fun of for a while. But like I mentioned, not as long as if it would have happened later in the tournament. If it had somehow happened in the finals? Oh boy, the US wouldn't hear the end of it until the next Cup.

And sure, I got 1-4 you. ;)

The USA is much more respected and liked now than we were 2 years ago. All the evidence needed to understand that is the millions of tourists who had a great time all across the USA during the World Cup.

Sorry, no.

More people around the world now favour China over the US, Pew study suggests

China is now viewed more positively than the US in many countries around the world, according to a new study by the Pew Research Center. It is the first time the organisation has recorded such results.

The findings from the non-partisan, US-based think tank indicate that favourable views of China have reached record highs in many countries, while perceptions of the United States have worsened.

Sorry, yes. Pew polled people through May. That's short of the Great Awakening which showed the media to be liars and showed America to be a greater thing than sliced bread. Not to mention the greatest margins were people from Pakistan, Malaysia, West Bank (is that a country?), Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

It will be a cold day in Hell before the Communist dictatorship of China has a more favorable opinion. That poll is a trash junk poll.

People.

They. Polled. People.

From all over the world.

This is a thing they do. They're professionals pollsters. As an organisation, they've been doing it for ~20 years.

Pew is far from the only polling group that has reported lower international favourability for the US.

Gallup, Morning Consult, PoliticoPoll and Ipsos all report similar trends. As do more specalised groups like NIRA/Alliance for Democracies.

The Trump administration has done immense, potentially long-term, damage to the international reputation of the USA.

It has destroyed the country's soft power by abandoning its efforts around global aid/development support and withdrawing from dozens - if not hundreds - of significant global organisations and treaties (WHO, Paris climate agreements, Inter-American Institute, UN Democracy Fund, UN Human Rights Council, etc etc). Further harm has been done by the US' failure to meet its legal (and moral) responsibilities around international refugees.

The Trump administration's insane stance of tariffs has damaged its relationships with traditional economic and trading partners (and gained China much clout).

The Trump administration's insane stance on NATO has damaged its relationships with traditional military allies. As has its threats around annexation of foreign territory (Greenland, Canada, Venezuela), or threats of military action within sovereign nations (Mexico), or threats to bomb allies (Mexico [again], Oman) or abandon treaty/defence obligations (NATO, Taiwan, Australia, Iraq, Five Eyes alliance, shelving the Indo-Pacific strategy).

The Trump administration's militarism has also plummeted its international opinion. Not just its support for Israel's wars against Gaza, Iran and Lebanon, but its ongoing (and illegal) attacks on boats in international waters, its blockade of Cuba and military build-up in the Caribbean.

Conversely, its progressive abandonment of Ukraine in terms of military and economic support has also soured international opinion on the US.

Argentina makes a HUGE comeback to defeat England!!!
What a win for Argentina! They keep squeeking by but are just such a joy to watch. A rollercoaster of emotions for me up to the last minute. I don't know what happened, England looked dominant in the first half but after their goal in the second, they backed off their attack until it was too late. Beautiful goal by Fernandez to bring them into the game and then just a few minutes later, Lautaro to end it with Messi's assist in both crucial plays. Just a personal note, my family is Argentinian and this win against England was bigger than Sunday's final with Spain will be. So much deep history behind this fixture. Whatever happens Sunday, this is the match that will live on in Argentinians' memories forever.

This is a really great article describing why the Argentina team is an awesome team.
Actually it reveals more that England played the wrong strategy after our first goal. We should have continued the full court press rather than going defensive. We let Argentina push us onto our back foot and we started treating Messi like he was just another player. We thereby gave him too much space to develop play after play.

The Argentines played very well in the last quarter especially. But the thuggery on both sides of this grudge match made the game too emotional and I think we lost our heads.

England should have continued the attack. We gave Messi too much space in the last quarter.

The Argentines are still sore at losing the Falklands War, but that was not their land to take. We have lost three times since then at high level in the World Cup. The way England will/has described these Argentine defeats is in terms of Maradonas cheating ( hand of God goal), Beckhams Red Card and FIFA corruption and bias to its hosts continent.

The fact that the Argentines also play excellent football should also be acknowledged.
