On Wednesday, The New York Times reported something the White House desperately didn’t want Americans to know. The president’s shiny new jet (the $400 million palace-in-the-sky “donated” by Qatar) isn’t actually safe.

On Friday night, FBI Director Kash Patel was on the tarmac and about to depart for Chicago (himself using an official government jet to go to his girlfriend’s concert), when he was abruptly summoned to the White House. There, presumably at Trump’s direction, he oversaw the opening rounds of a leak probe into the New York Times journalists and whoever their sources were. Patel spent eight hours directing the probe from the White House, not FBI headquarters, a staggering departure from decades of practice meant to keep the bureau’s investigative machinery out of a president’s personal reach.

That night, federal agents fanned out across the New York and Washington areas to serve subpoenas on four New York Times journalists — Julian Barnes, Eric Lipton, Tyler Pager, and Eric Schmitt — in some cases showing up at the doors of their homes after dark.

Within 24 hours, the newspaper that was the target of the FBI’s probe and Trump’s ire, The New York Times, published a detailed account of the entire operation. Sources were sharing details with them about Trump’s rage, Patel’s summons, the White House’s hands-on direction of the investigation, and the unusual nature of all of it. The details were attributed to “people with knowledge of the situation,” which we can surmise are administration officials and/or people inside or close to the FBI.

Officials asked to turn over phones at White House as leak investigation intensifies​

Communications director Steven Cheung, known for his fiery outbursts, wrote on X that "Carol Leonnig is a liar and this article is complete Fake News," referring to an MS NOW report that said Trump abandoned his Qatari-gifted jet on the flight from the NATO summit in Turkey to the United Kingdom over security concerns tied to escalating strikes on Iran. "She has no idea what she is talking about. She says the White House declined to comment. Not true. We gave comment to the New York Times and many other outlets. Carol is not a real journalist. A complete fraud," Cheung railed.

US President Donald Trump said Sunday his new Qatari-gifted Air Force One jet needed to be sent off for a month to be "maxed out," after reports of security concerns on a trip to Turkey.
Trump took his first flight on the retrofitted Boeing 747-8 plane on July 1, but questions swirled after he took an older jet home from a NATO meeting in Ankara on July 10.
The New York Times reported that the new plane lacked the same security countermeasures, including anti-missile defenses. Its reporters were then subpoenaed by the Trump administration.
"It has a lot of capability, but as I understand it, in about a month or so, they're going to send it to have it be maxed out," Trump told reporters when asked why he was still flying on a plane without full defensive capabilities.

So when it was reported Trump et al had to fly back on the old AF1 because of an incomplete retrofit, they responded with this:



They said the reason why they switched planes is because the Qatar retrofit plane would be left so those at military bases abroad could see it.
