  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Simulations and the Bible?

I believe I'm probably in a simulation (maybe like the Roy game from Rick and Morty)
see:

I had some thoughts about how a simulation could be relevant to the Bible

e.g.
- it could make a physical world that is indistinguishable from reality
- it could allow supernatural beings to exist
- it could allow God to be omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent (especially if he was implemented with AI or an uploaded mind)
- it allows teleporting and having control over time (change time speed or go into the past or future)

the first video in the thread I linked shows you can start with a picture (including drawings) or a description and then go into that world

- generative AI could be controlled with voice commands like in Genesis 1

so it could also allow all of the miracles in the Bible including the parting of the Red Sea, God's hand writing text on the wall, coming back from the dead, the fishes and loaves, walking on water, rising up to heaven, exorcisms, etc.

It could allow dimensions that are outside of the physical universe (like heaven and hell)

One of the only things in the Bible I'm aware of that can't be achieved using simulations is simulating a literal eternity.

Note an eternity is infinitely longer than a googolplex - and a googolplex is a 1 with a googol zeroes and a googol is a 1 with 100 zeroes.

But I think a googolplex years for heaven or hell is good enough.

And there's Ecclesiastes 11:5
As you do not know the path of the wind,
or how the body is formed in a mother’s womb,
so you cannot understand the work of God,
the Maker of all things.
So is the simulation explanation wrong because humans will never know how God works?

I guess the alternative to the simulation explation is that things just mysteriously happen kind of like magic.

BTW there is an earlier attempt by humans to try and understand how God works - the Jewish mysticism of Kabbalah: (but I think it is nonsense)

Another issue is that everything that is in a simulation had a beginning but I think the Bible says God didn’t have a beginning.

God can do all things you mentioned not magically. We will be able to understand when we are in heaven but for now…. This is not a simulation it is reality. The other seems like fantasy. Maybe you want to do or to see something so bad…. But it’s just not happening this is reality boring, unaccentuating sometimes. When Jesus was here it was an exciting time. Read it in the Bible be excited, believe it’s true. But work out your salvation daily with what you know from the Bible and enjoy.

What is different in heaven? Are our intellects bigger and our current intellects aren't capable of understanding the mechanisms? Or do we have the same intellects and hidden knowledge is revealed to us?
but for now…. This is not a simulation it is reality.
Apparently Job 34:14–15 says “If he withdrew his spirit and breath, all humanity would perish… and return to dust.” So it seems God is part of this world rather than it having an independent existence.

I don't believe in Jesus literally rising from the dead though - but that is easy to do in a Bible based simulation.

BTW simulations can also explain the soul... you can have personalities that are independent of atoms, etc.

I wish I could heal. But it is God given. But that would be playing God. It not Gods will for us to heal. It would take a lot of prayer to be given such a gift. Heaven will be revealed in time.

that is a very good scripture and thank you for it. That is almost awesome, only God is awesome. He is the only awesome God’. Job 34:14-15 wow God is so forbearing and patient with us. We have his life even if not saved, it is a gift from God. Our very lives…. He is a part of us and that is reality- almost awesome.

jesus did rise from the dead and so did Lazarus and others. That is reality. If he didn’t to prove everything he said was true we would have no basis of faith and his words would have no life in them. It is recorded by the apostles. It is key to the faith of Christian’s. If you take it out what do you gain but uncertainty and doubt and trouble and no peace. Believe on the lord Jesus Christ like a little child as a mustard seed, just as it is. With God all things are possible and true. He loves you the Bible is true from cover to cover. How can you quote Job and not realize that his life is in us because he lives. He has risen in deed.

if simulations can believe the resurrection and explain the soul then take that wisdom from them and leave the rest. Incorporate it into your life and be the better for it. I glean from my mind some things sometimes but I do not have it full reign over my life. Just the things it gets right. My mind is my enemy often times but I will not be ruled by my flesh. It’s so often the world the flesh and the devil and not righteous.
