  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

From what I read, there was initially a proposed investigation into whether or not there was foul play since it was very sudden, and after Iran had published some sort of propaganda images featuring crosshairs on his forehead. (so it stands to reason, that in a dangerous world, nothing can be ruled out when something unexpected happens)

But they've now found that he had an aortic aneurysm that ruptured from the sounds of it, that would explain the suddenness of it.

Cardiologists refer to those as hidden timebombs, they often have no symptoms up until it's too late, and then the person goes from "fine" to deceased in a matter of minutes after they rupture.

They recommend that every man get a AAA screening at least once when they turn 50. (That's the same thing that killed John Ritter)

Although, they can impact younger men too. I went ahead and paid out of pocket for an AAA ultrasound screening at my physical when I turned 40 since there's a family history of it on my mom's side.

FRC's Tony Perkins on Lindsey Graham's Passing: He Embodied Moral Courage

"Lindsey Graham was a true leader. Lindsey did the hard, often unseen work of accomplishing what has lasting value.

"Lindsey Graham was not just a vote; he was a voice, a voice for the defenseless. He used his influence to advance the cause of life. When others grew quiet, Lindsey stepped forward and gave his colleagues a way to speak - clearly, courageously, and compassionately about the dignity of every human life.

"He was also a consistent advocate for persecuted Christians around the world, those who suffer simply because they refuse to deny their faith.

"He saw the global landscape the way a chess master sees the board, thinking several moves ahead. He remained steady, because he knew what is at stake--not just for us, but for our children and grandchildren. That is moral courage. And that same conviction was seen in his steadfast support for the State of Israel.

"He used his voice, and his influence, not for himself, but to protect and advance faith, family, and freedom. Lindsey Graham delivered on all three.

"I offer my deepest condolences -- and my deepest gratitude -- to the Graham family. America could use more leaders like Lindsey Graham who embodied moral courage: doing what is right for others, even when it may cost you personally," concluded Perkins.

To be honest, I don't know that I entirely like that particular rule for filling vacant senate seats when a sitting senator steps down or passes away.

It seems as if that's something that can be leveraged nefariously in certain cases.

Not specifically referring to this case, this is literally the first I've heard of Lindsey Graham even having a sister, so I couldn't tell you what her positions were or whether or not she would legislate the same way her brother would.

But I could see this being a precedent for normalizing "bait & switch" scenarios in the future if done in bad faith.

Based on the rules of "Governor can appoint a replacement for remainder of the term", in theory, what would stop a party from colluding and putting forth a moderate appealing candidate to win in a state where they control the governor's seat, and then having the person step down/resign immediately, and appointing a much more extreme idealogue?
