  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

John 4:23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." NKJV

The Father wants worshipers who worship Him in spirit and truth. When we first believed in Jesus, we received His Spirit and were baptized in His Spirit.

What did God do to get people who worshiped Him in spirit?

John 12:24 Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain. NKJV

Because He had died sinless, His Spirit caused us to be born from above as a spirit.

2 Corinthians 5:14 For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; 15 and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again. 16 Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, NKJV

The believer is a new creation. He is a Spirit contained within a flesh body that has been forgiven of its sins. John 1: 12 he has been given the right to become a child of God. John 14:27 believers are gifted the peace of Jesus. John 15:11 the joy of Jesus. Colossians 1: 3-5 hope in Jesus, saving faith in Jesus and love for all the saints. 1Corinthians 2:16 the mind of Jesus. The only thing not new is the believer's mind and body. If the mind was new, the person's identity would be gone.

God now had people who could worship Him in spirit.

What did God do to ensure that people worshiped Him in truth
?

2 items in the above scripture (2Corinthians 5:14-18) that I want to note. First verse 15 it reads “that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them.” God does not make them live for Jesus. He gives them a choice to live for Him or not.

The second items is in verse 16 reads “we regard no one according to the flesh.” What Paul is saying is that we cannot know the new spirit man by observing the flesh man. We can never know a person by what they do, but it is even harder when the true person is a spirit hidden in a flesh body. All spiritual worship does not show through the flesh. Matthew 13: 28-29 that is why Jesus forbid the apostles, who would be far better than ourselves, from eliminating the tares, unbelievers, from the church. In Matthew 13: 29 Jesus said that if we weeded out the tares we would weed out some of His people, that should tell us that works cannot be a good indication of a tare. He also said that He would let His angles weed the tares out just prior to gathering the wheat. Acts 5: 1-11 therefore, anyone the apostles, or God, removed permanently from the assembly of believers were true believers. That is also why we are told not to associate, not to kill, those conducting themselves as we know God does not want His children to conduct themselves.

God proved through the history of His people that ordering His people to obey the law did not work. To ensure that people obeyed Him out of love, not fear, He justified people apart from their deeds taking works out of the equation. God removed the requirement to do good works to be righteous. 2Corinthians 5:14-15, John 16: 8-10 He would only send people to hell for not believing in Jesus. If salvation depended on their works then some people would obey and worship Him out of fear. That would not be true worship or a truthful worshiper. Therefore; Romans 5: 15-16 God made salvation a free gift. Colossians 1: 3-5 if they appreciated what God did for them, (Ephesians 3: 8) they would be gifted with the vehicle through which they were saved. Romans 9:11, Ephesians 2:9 God told them that their works had nothing to do with their salvation. Romans 4:5-8 Romans He told them if they worked for their salvation, that they were not saved. Romans 4:5 God even told them if they did not believe he justified people without good works, that they did not trust Jesus for their salvation. God could now get people to worship Him in truth not out of fear.

He also gave us examples in the scriptures of ungodly people He had justified.

He made salvation a free gift, justification is accomplished without the believer doing anything but believe in Jesus, Jesus did all the work to save everyone in the world who will accept His gift. God did all this so His people would do good works out of love, not fear, and worship Him in spirit and truth.

I think when it comes to these types of statements Jesus makes, its important to allow the Bible, in this case Jesus Himself explain what He means.

When we must worship Him in truth and spirit, what does true worship look like according to Jesus.

One way to understand this is to understand what false worship is according to Jesus because the opposite of false is truth.

He could not have explained it in a more clearer way than this:

Mat 15:3 He answered them, And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? 4 For God commanded, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’ 5 But you say, ‘If anyone tells his father or his mother, “What you would have gained from me is given to God,”[a] 6 he need not honor his father.’ So for the sake of your tradition you have made void the word of God. 7 You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said:

8 “‘This people honors me with their lips,
but their heart is far from me;

9 in vain do they worship me,
teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’”

According to Jesus, when we lay aside the commandments of God and Jesus quoted directly from the Ten Commandments, the commandments God personally wrote and spoke that are inside the ark of His covenant also in heaven Rev11:19 that it makes ones heart far from God, it makes the word of God void and makes ones worship to Him in vain.

Because we are laying aside God's Truth

Psa 119:151 You are near, O Lord,
And all Your commandments are truth.

When God spoke the Ten Commandments this was said:

Exo 20:20 And Moses said to the people, “Do not fear; for God has come to test you, and that His fear may be before you, so that you may not sin.”

Godly fear, is that we place God what He says, above everyone else and do not sin against Him- sin is the transgression of God's laws 1John3:4 James 2:11

What Jesus was quoting in Mat15 and Mark7 was from Isaiah

Isa 29:13 Therefore the Lord said:

“Inasmuch as these people draw near with their mouths
And honor Me with their lips,
But have removed their hearts far from Me,
And their fear toward Me is taught by the commandment of men,

So Jesus is teaching there are people who honor Him with their lips, but their heart is far from Him because they have laid aside the commandment of God where right in the Ten Commandments God not only said this, He wrote this as part of His Testimony Exo31:18

Exo 20:6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

What Jesus is condemning is people who profess Him with their lips, but their fear of God comes from traditions of men and not the commandments of God, the whole duty of mankind.

Ecc 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:

Fear God and keep His commandments,
For this is man’s all.

14 For God will bring every work into judgment,
Including every secret thing,
Whether good or evil.

Its why we are being called back to the everlasting gospel- fear God, give Him glory, worship Him who made Exo20:11 Rev12:7 come out of our false teachings and keep His commandments Rev14:6-12, because from generation to generation our fear of God has been though mans traditions and not the Testimony of God. Exo31:18 Deut4:13 True worship according to Jesus is keeping God's commandments- not placing another god above Him, not bowing to idols, not using His name in vain and not breaking God's holy Sabbath day, which each of these commandments have rich spiritual meanings, that never go away from breaking the literal commandment. Mat5:19

Why God's saints do not follow the traditions of men, but have the faith of Jesus and keep the commandments of God, His version, not what man changed Dan7:25

Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.

Jesus is calling us back to true worship- will we open our hearts and hear Him Heb3:7-19, or follow in the same example of those who came before us Heb4:11

We have been given a lot of freedom and with freedom comes temptations. As the scriptures say we should not use the freedom to please the flesh. We should use our freedom to please Him who made this freedom possible.

Matthew 7:26 "But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall." NKJV

Jesus, who knows us better than we know ourselves, gave us plenty of encouragement. We need to make wise decisions as our eternity depends on it.

I'm sure that the elect is the elect because they took steps to ensure their salvation.

1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. 11 To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. NKJV

The person who knows our weaknesses better than we do is waiting to pounce on us at our first mistake.

Luke 12:29 "And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind. 30 For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things. 31 But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you. 32 "Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. 33 Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys. 34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. NKJV

The times are getting harder as we get closer to Jesus' second coming. Now is the time to start laying up treasure in heaven while we still can. God will provide for our needs if we take steps to give to His kingdom.
