  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Jews never stopped being the chosen people, because god said as much, the bible said as much, have the Jews dealt with oppression, yes. I bring this topic up because I see so much hate towards the Jews. Here is an ews flash...every world power in the last 4000 years has tried to crush the Jews.

Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Persia Greece, Rome, Byzantium, Ottoman Empire, Roman Catholic Church, Protestants, the Nazi's, and all are now extinct or if they exist its in a diminished capacity. It is almost like someone has the jews back.

And I know 100% that come judgement day there are gonna be alot of disapointed people who thought they were Christians and find out they were the opposite...by they way...JESUS AND THE APOSTLES WERE ALL JEWS!!!

I agree that hatred of Jews, or hatred of anybody because of their nationality, is wrong. However, the Bible does say that as far as Christians are concerned, there is no difference between Jew and Gentile:

(Rom 10:11) For the Scripture says, "WHOEVER BELIEVES ON HIM WILL NOT BE PUT TO SHAME."
(Rom 10:12) For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him.
(Rom 10:13) For "WHOEVER CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL BE SAVED."

(You will know that the New Testament often uses the word "Greek" where we would say "Gentile.")

As for Jews still being God's chosen people, it was to Jews that Jesus said:

(Joh 8:44) You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.

Well in some cases a change of tribes of people.

Germany still basically have the same lineage of people and is still going fairly strong, The Roman Catholic church too.

Yes, since God made the covenant with Abraham it still stands and will continue to stand until the end of days and even after

Reading scripture because of disobedience his Chosen people will be scattered throughout the Nations and endure forms of punishment - any who goes up against them will suffer in some manner and those who try to help them God will have mercy on to a point Numbers 24:9,Genesis 49:9,Genesis 12:3 GNT - The nation is like a mighty lion; When - Bible Gateway Bible Gateway passage: Numbers 24:9, Genesis 49:9, Genesis 12:3 - Good News Translation
It is also written Israel will become a burdensome stone to those who try to aide her. Zechariah 12:3 - Bible Gateway Zechariah 12:3 - Bible Gateway

MOD HAT ON

This thread has been moved from Ethics and Morality to General Theology.

The Ethics and Morality subforum is for debating ethics and morality with unbelievers, and this is a theological assertion best discussed among Christians.

A cleanup of unbeliever posts was done as part of this move.

Let's make one thing abundantly clear: Hatred and bigotry toward any group of people is a heinous thing that deserves the harshest condemnation; for any belligerence toward any group of people, or any person because of who they are, what their religion, ethnicity, race, or origin is is an attack on the Sacred and Holy Image of God which God has invested all human beings with.

This means any form of xenophobia, racism, or ethnic hatred is contemptable. That includes antisemitism and any hatred of the Jewish people, of Jews as individuals, and hate-mongering conspiracy theories directed against Jewish persons. It utterly despicable and contemptable, and must be condemned, and rooted out as unacceptable at all, especially within Christ's Church which is for all peoples, races, tribes, tongues, and nations for in Christ all are made one.

With that said, the question of "chosen-ness" needs to be addressed theologically.

What did it mean for Israel to be chosen?

And what would it mean for Jewish people, today, to be chosen?

And how do we square these ideas of chosen-ness with the language of the New Testament about chosen-ness in and through Jesus Christ?

These ideas need to be addressed seriously, biblically, and theologically.

Yes, absolutely, antisemitism is a problem, and it has been a problem for a long time--and it needs to be condemned. But that doesn't provide us with a clear, theological, answer as to chosen-ness means within the biblical framework of God's covenant promises toward the world.

God has only one chosen people, the Church. God has two covenants in scripture, the old and the new yet at the time both were given to the Jews. Yet the Holy Spirit sent Peter to the gentiles which he did not understand. But God, because of the rejection of the Jewish establishment, did not limit the new covenant to one people. We who are gentle were grafted into Gods vine with the warning that even the graft could be cut out just as the Jewish religious leadership was. The church today embodies, in the context of a catholic body, and by catholic I use the meaning of the entire worldwide, sometimes called universal, body of believers alive presently, which is not a reference to any particular sect or group. From Acts to the present the church embodies all people who exist and are alive in Christ. His People which the Father has given him and weeko he will keep as that is the will of his father. The church does not exclude those who are Jewish. However there is a time coming when the blindness of Israel will be removed by God who blinded them, and Christ will be their redeemer.

Sorry to go off-topic, but I can only access Christian Forums at the moment by clicking on email links for threads I am following. The problem of the error message about too many redirects has reared its ugly head again, (as happened a month or two back) and appears when I try to access C F's home page. Could I ask that whatever was done to resolve the problem last time is done again? Last time, the problem only seemed to affect people like me who are in the UK.

Hate to break it to you but Jesus is the only way....
ViaCrucis didn't say that there was more than one way, just that hatred and bigotry toward any group of people because of things like their ethnicity or religion is wrong.

I'm genuinely confused by their comment--I have no idea what it has to do with what I said, or why they think I believe salvation is found anywhere else except Christ.
