  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does God speak to us personally as we read the Bible.

When you read scripture does a verse 'Pop out' of the page and convict you regarding a direction or a sin or His vast Love.

Or is the scripture a 'technical book' that documents history and details about God if you study hard enough.

Does it only reveal understanding to intellectuals?

Does he then discriminate against the simple?

“The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭119‬:‭130‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭8‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Scripture reveals itself in two ways, primarily. Through genuine knowledge that you already possess & wisdom given to you by the Comforter. Most individuals aren’t as dull as you’d like to believe. The lion's share of scripture is not outside the domain of understanding for the general populace. No, the problem isn’t that most people can’t interpret the main thought behind, “In the beginning God created the heaven & the earth”, it’s that most people reject the Word altogether - whether it’s their preconceived notions that force them into making the Word fit their narrative or an outright rejection of Christ altogether. This is why when the unbeliever reads scripture, genuinely searching for truth, he will find it.

I would say as we grow in Jesus, we become more and more able to understand.

Plus, as God does with us what His word means . . . we have this demonstration of His word.

If you have an owner's manual for a car, but it dropped in on you from an airplane, and you live in a jungle with "unreached" people . . . you might not understand much that you see and read in your manual :)

But with God sharing with us and working His meaning . . . this brings meaning even in real experience.
