  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Compete fairly. The rules are clear and the same for every one. The consequences of a red card are the same for every one.
The USA can only win by cheating.
Do you think the red card was deserved?

So having the truth prevail makes you less heroic? I think not. They'll win, and they'll be heroes.
Sport is full of unfair this and that. Other team have suffered (or benefited) from it too. Whats wrong is when you have rich most powerful daddy come in from outside the sport to "fix" it for you. A privilge other teams lack.

I hear Donald is currently being fitted for a referees uniform.
Footballers will have to get used to playing around the golf-cart though.

Prove it. I'm sure that being rich and powerful had nothing to do with it. They would have done the same for Cape Verde.

I dont have to. It looks like what I describe for obvious reasons. I hold this truth to be self evident.

Team USA got screwed. And then Trumps meddling shut the door to them being proper champions in the eyes of the world. Its a sad state. Fifa was already sucking up to Trump with their stupid "peace prize". Trump using his special influence sours the whole thing more indelibly than any in game error.

Honestly, I was hoping for germany to get kicked out early, so I'm quite pleased with the result.

And I didn't assume we'd lose so quickly. But calling germany a "giant" after two abysmal showings is a bad joke at this point. The team is second rate at best.
Germany has been declining for years, to me they are almost second rate, although many people wont agree.
Brazil is also disappointing this year.

I wonder if the US team could, as a matter of honor, refuse to field that player. Regardless of FIFA and the president, the team comes out looking honorable.
Generally in life there are honorable ways to deal with setbacks and injustice. Sometimes those mean you might take a loss to achieve a gain.

But I dont blame the team if they just go with the situation dealt them and play everyone. Mainly I blame rich daddy for polluting the whole thing as an outside force. Hes put a stain on any victory unfortunately.

If that should happen, I will look forward to all of the sudden football (soccer) experts weighing in on the topic.
(Balogun doesn’t have to start…but should another striker become injured, he might be put in as a substitute, (now that coach Pochettino has been given the option.))

I don't think anyone would fault the US team from playing the hand they were dealt. However, I think if we didn't play Balogun*, the team, win or lose, would come out smelling likes roses. Despite our president, our citizens would be seen as honorable.

*ETA: noting the exception @Pommer mentioned.

I will not have our President disrespected unless he has earned it!
In that case I can unleash my entire rhetorical arsenal.

A red card is APPEALABLE after the game. Case closed. End of story.

By the team. Powers interfering from beyond the sport just taints the whole thing. Story alive, sadly.

I can see why some people would think that the US team can still be "heroes" after gaining an unfair advantage. After all, many people in the USA also see their army as heroes when they destroy sandal-clad insurrectionists with stealth bombers.
