**The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America,**

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.—That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, —That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.

Im not sure Americans are into that.

The desire seems to be that governments derive their powers from the consent of the political parties:
- whichever ones can best engineer uncontested districts.
- whichever ones own structural advantages via non-equally potent votes.
Those both work against the consent of the governed.

As for myself, I really do like the original sentiment quoted there. It really stands the test of time as an aspirational framework for thinking about government.

Having reread the Declaration, these are my feelings:

May we get back to the ideals of our founding fathers and turn around the shredding of the Constitution on January 20, 2029.

May we set up strong, impenetrable Congressional guardrails against further Constitutional damage in January, 2027.

May the House of Representatives once again impeach the President, and may the third time be the charm. May those voters who have voters' remorse apologize to their friends and neighbors for the pain they have caused Americans.

In socialism and communism the government controls the people. To me the most important think in our founding document is the recognition that our rights come from God. The United States will last as long as there are enough God-fearing people in our country.

But he is still assuming the powers that a king might have, were we to have one here. Well, he's trying to, anyway. He's only been partially successful, just not entirely.

But it wasnt done lawfully. That is why much of what he has done has been blocked or overturned by the courts.

When that is done, though, people want to talk about activist judges and check the ancestry of the judges to determine if they have the right to refuse Trump and looking for a reason to say the judges were wrong in their ruling.

You're right, though. He's not a king. Or a deity. But, imo, that's not from lack of trying on his part and on the part of some of his supporters. The idolatry alone, wanting his name, image and/or signature to mark everything produced by the government, is something I'd expect in communist North Korea, not America, and should give every Christian pause. Entire businesses have sprung up to sell nothing but merchandise with the Trump name, such is the fervor to be covered in his mark. Not symbols of the country, symbols of the man.

Obama was the first Black president. I have a couple of buttons to commemorate the occasion and at one time I think I had the newspaper from the day he won first term. Growing up, black people often had a calendar with MLK and/or Kennedy. They were sold in local neighborhood stores. In our house, we even had a bust of Kennedy. This year I bought a pin to commemorate the 250th anniversary of our country. I may even get a tshirt. I love images with the American flag. IMO, this near worship of Trump is not normal and it goes beyond mere collecting or even celebrity worship. How many people adorn everything - their houses, cars, clothes and lawns - with images of Michael Jackson or Taylor Swift? Not teenagers, grown folk.

The spell will break sooner or later.

Hopefully.

Its been 10+ years so I'm not really optimistic except for the fact that, while long suffering, God is a jealous God and I don't expect Him to continue to tolerate some of the Trump obsession from the so called Christian community or for His flock to continue to be turned away from basic Christian tenets such as empathy, loving your neighbor and feeding children and the poor.

That is not true for kings in general. Kings both predate and postdate the absolutist kings of the 16th-18th century. Not even during that time were all kings absolute rulers everywhere there were kings. For example, in Sweden the kings Karl XI and Karl XII (over the years 1680-1719) and Gustav III (1772-1792, he was murdered because of it) were pretty much absolutist kings, but not the kings (and queens) before, between or after 1809. I have to amend that, the king after Gustav III, Gustav IV Adolf tried to rule as an absolutist king but was kicked out and exiled in 1809.

While I'm on a history roll, I want to point out that the earliest examples of laws in Sweden (landskapslagarna, ~13th century) contains the declaration in old swedish -land skal mæþ laghum byggias (land shall with law be built, my direct translation). It was also the motto of Karl XV, much later.
