  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

America has come a long way in making strides towards racial equality and that is a good thing. Let's not ruin it by swinging the pendulum too far in the other direction and creating reverse discrimination. In regard to DEI, two wrongs don't make it right. When you say brown people out, white in are you talking about white South African refugees?
DEI is not reverse discrimination. It's a realization that opening up opportunity is beneficial. If you want to call those opportunities broadened to include everyone discrimination, then I don't know what to say.

So, you call all of the cheap shots and injuries that Caitlan Clark suffered last year (and the refs just stood there like statues, no fouls called) and now it's starting up again thiis year.a marketing ploy? I call it hatred and jealousy and even racism.
The issue here appears to be inconsistent officiating, which is something that the league needs to address for sure, but doesn't seem to be indicative of any sort of conspiracy. Clark is hardly the only player affected.

It probably was the case 20 years ago that there were informal quotas on hiring by race. At least in my very liberal University that hasn't been true for a long time. DEI for us has nothing to do with hiring. It's about treating other staff and students right.

This is important, in principle. People do things without realizing what they're doing, which is why training in implicit bias is important. But it can go too far. The NY Times did an interview with 4 people working in the DEI industry. They all thought DEI training had gotten otu of control. Before Trump's political attacks on it, there were articles talking about evidence that a lot of DEI training had become counterproductive. That doesn't mean they didn't think we need to alert people to the kinds of problems that can occur, nor that we should suppress teaching about periods and activities in US history where racism occurred. And in some disciplines we really should cover things like critical race theory. It's important, even if you disagree. Just like Marxism is important to teach about, even if I think it's mostly not worked out well.
