  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This kind of attitude is what seperates casual viewers from actual soccer fans.

Not that I am much of a soccer fan. I don't follow the thing at all. But in countries that really care about soccer, public life is at a standstill when their team is playing in the world cup. Even people who have to work have one eye on a TV or, at the very least, some kind of live ticker.

I never claimed to be a fan. There is a game on right now that I'm not watching. I guess the USMNT (the subject of the thread) has a game sometime next week. I'll watch that when it is time.

I don't even know any of the players on the USMNT. At least with the Women's WC I might remember the names of a few players, but I learned today that it will be "broadcast" on some streamer.
