At least the excuses are lining up.

Figures including radio host and MAGA supporter Grant Stinchfield suggested the pool was "sabotaged" by Democrats, while author and Trump supporter Juanita Broaddrick wrote on X: "It appears very evident that the reflecting pool has been sabotaged. The left is evil."

(Article has some useful hypotheses about why it's green, including the party line that this is residual.)

I'm willing to give this a couple more days before I rescind my tacit compliments. If there's still green on 4th of july, I think we can call this a failure.

(Of course, some of Trump's supporters would still call it a "win" and probably say that "the left" sabotaged the efforts somehow.)

The amount of algae does seem to be decreasing, at least for the moment.

Here is the webcam above at 6 AM ET today:

Swamp green.

Then at noon ET today:

You can see the algae is staring to break up a bit.

And then just a few minutes ago, right before 6 PM ET, or roughly 12 hours from the original, fully swamp green photo:

I'm not attempting to defend any of this. Simply showing that in the last 12 hours, there has been a considerable reduction in the amount of algae.

I could be wrong, but I think those little black specks are people. I think there are people cleaning it.

Yeah, but I'm skeptical it will last. That'a a massive, mostly stagnant, body of water. Even if they do succeed in cleaning the current algae, I suspect it will just return. Without appropriate filtration and treatment, it's inevitable that ANY body of stagnant water will grow algae. Heck, I couldn't even keep my kid's ten foot inflatable kiddie pool free of algae last summer.
