  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I dont think the uranium concern was ever false.

I just think the USA is now in a bind thanks to Trump admin recklessness, and now for political reasons Trump will settle for very little so he can (try to) put this debacle behind him.

The goal was to halt Iran's ability to manufacture nuclear weapons. Since the uranium is so inaccessible now it would be a challenge even for the resources the US has to extract it, Iran isn't going to be able to.

If Trump proceeded with the extraction, then the complaint would be that Trump was spending more money than the uranium was worth to obtain it.

Iran kept it going.
Kept what going? The nuclear sites were "obliterated". As you say, the uranium was inaccessible.

AI Overview [Google "uranium inaccessible after 2025 strikes"]

Yes, hundreds of kilograms of Iran's enriched uranium are currently buried and inaccessible beneath collapsed tunnels and rubble following the 2025 joint U.S. and Israeli strikes. [1, 2]

He is so clueless and those who follow him so desperate to revere him that we could have given up Florida to Iran as part of the concessions and it would still be heralded as a great win by Trump.

They kept it going by shifting to missile development, cyber warfare and having hidden research facilities. An agreement needed to be reached. Iran kept fighting against it.

Is that in regard to the left still continually trying to dissuade people from voting for Trump?
No, but nice try!

Ah ah ah, the topic of the thread is uranium. There is also no evidence Iran has been working on a nuclear device recently.

Those responses are based on what's been in the general news. But I'll leave you guys to the usual echo chamber.

While he wouldn't be the first politician trying to recolour a bad decision, I think his bombastic and hyperbolic communicating of his ideas, should not be in politics.
For no reason other than, it's deceptive and utterly pointless. But I am positive that crisis experts would have far more to say on his ineptitude.

Iran had agreed to all our terms, but Trump started bombing anyway.

And now no mention of ballistic missiles. Oh, except that Trump has literally said that they ought to have some. Because...well, because other people have them. Luckily he doesn't seem to think that that applies to nukes. Thank heavens for the inconsistency.

While it's pretty obvious that he's trying to repackage some bad decisions to save face (and being concerned about an Islamic theocracy having serious firepower isn't an irrational concern), I fail to see how this approach is worse (in a practical sense) than previous approaches that suggested that we pay what's tantamount to a mafia-style protection vig in order for them not to blow a quarter of the planet up.

Is it time to perhaps acknowledge the reality that world powers that adhere to fundamentalist Islam present some challenges that are unique to them and don't allow for any (ideologically) "pure" solutions?

Really? An agreement that Iran signed off on that prevented them even enriching uranium past 4%? What you have now is not a heck of a lot worse than that?

You are having a laugh at someone's expense. But I'm not sure who the joke could possibly be aimed at.
