  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am curious why Republicans ignore Trump's wrong doing.

This is absolutely false! Too many on the left are clamoring, voting for and supporting just those types. I think someone is confused on where the fascism lies.
In your opinion, it's absolutely false.

Please read the definitions of socialism and communism and compare them to the scare tactics used by oligarchs and aspiring dictators.

Some people have too much CNN to form their opinions.

I did not get my definitions of communism and socialism from CNN or media.
I got it from 18 years of education, half of them taught by habited Catholic nuns.
From living in 4 different states--one blue, one purple, two bloodshed red--and seeing the terrible injustice in the latter two.
From visiting three different continents and countries with different types of governments, including a desperately poor country where I served in missions.
From extensive reading.
Do you always disparage the beliefs of others?

What are some examples of these "scare tactics" you refer to?

Like the previous poster I would like to know to which “scare tactics “ you refer?
Please read the definitions of socialism and communism and compare them to the scare tactics used by oligarchs and aspiring dictators.
Mamdani, Wu, Platner, Sanders, Katie Wilson, Nithya Raman, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are just a few you can ask about socialism and communism. I believe my charge was many of these types are voted for and supported by many on the left . So I give you examples,

I did not get my definitions of communism and socialism from CNN or media.
If you try to attach “oligarchs and aspiring dictators” to the current administration I do question your sources and beliefs.

Great!

I do question and challenge beliefs of others on a public debate forum, that is what we do here.
My beliefs are challenged all the time!

I find it completely humorous that you all on the left differentiate socialists and communists from oligarchs and dictators when socialist and communist regimes are run by oligarchs and dictators. Someone putting Americans first in America and getting rid of partisan political policies that don’t benefit America, at large, especially when they have trampled on the Constitutional rights of most Americans, isn’t a dictator, it is someone trying to right the ship before it sinks.

Three words: control - greed - fear
Democrats are in fear of losing control of the sources fueling their greed.
(not saying some Republicans haven't been profiting as well)

CFR.

The rest of your post is a bunch of bunk considering the massive fraud that has been uncovered in the liberal states. Does that mean there is no fraud anywhere else? No, but your post sure suggests that everyone on the left side of the aisle has squeaky clean hands.
What is "CFR"? I have looked through everything in Acronym Finder and nothing seems relevant. Granted, there are 88 things listed so maybe I missed it, but certainly under the "Slang, Chat & Pop Culture" category, nothing seems relevant (Can't Find the Road, Chicken Fried Rice, Candy Fund Raiser, and Custom Flat Ride).

Could you say what you believe are the correct definitions of socialism and communism?

Getting this Merriam Webster link took me 5 seconds.
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/socialism
Well, that's just socialism, not communism--I would guess you would accept the same source's definition of communism as your definition of communism, but I don't want to assume on that point.

But, focusing on socialism, the definition offered by your link is:

1: any of various egalitarian economic and political theories or movements advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods
2:
a: a system of society or of group living in which there is no private property
b: a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state
3: a stage of society in Marxist theory that is transitional between capitalism and communism (see communism sense 2c) and is distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done

Now, the original claim you made was that "Democrats don't want socialism and communism any more than true conservatives want oligarchy and fascism." Therefore, for the other posters who took issue with this claim, you should do one the following:

1) Demonstrate Democrats want something that falls under these definitions of socialism
OR
2) Explain why the above definitions should be considered incorrect, then offer what you think is the correct definition, and show that Democrats want that

Doing so would likely lead to a more productive discussion on the topic, by ensuring all are on the same page in regards to the definitions.

My time can be spent more productively elsewhere.

Tomorrow night, for example, I will help write postcards for local candidates.

It's an election year. Progressives use sweat equity because their candidates refuse to become beholden to corporate susuperstars.

Are susuperstars extra super superstars?

Enquiring minds want to know.

My time can be spent more productively elsewhere.

My request was to others--hence my statement of "for the other posters who took issue with this claim."

Looking again, however, my meaning was a big confusing, as I said "for the other posters who took issue with this claim, you should do one of the following." The "you" in that case was supposed to be in reference to the "other posters" but I suppose the phrasing left it unclear; usage of "they" would have made it more clear. Though I thought the specific suggestions I was making made it more clear they were addressed towards others.

You must have missed chat room slang or discussion board slang lists.
Looking for slang lists is not of much use either... Google suggests "Come Find Room" as the most likely one, but that hardly seems to make sense.

Would it not be far more efficient for everyone involved for you to simply define the term? It would have been faster for you to write than the message you made in reply, and it would save everyone else the work of trying to decipher this apparently obscure acronym.

It’s not obscure. It means Call For References.
