  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

At the inaugural “Cleveland for Christ” event on Sunday (June 7), two pro football players were baptized and community members gathered for prayer, worship music, and faith-sharing. Cleveland Browns chaplain Nobles Darby IV led the event, which was free and open to the public.

Metro Cleveland FCA, the organizer behind “Cleveland for Christ,” encouraged people to especially invite young athletes and non-believers. Because the gathering was held at a municipal swimming pool, it was the ideal place to make faith declarations through baptism.

Two Browns players did exactly that. Linebacker Carson Schwesinger and running back Raheim Sanders were both baptized at Sunday’s event. Other players present—and wearing matching “Cleveland for Christ” shirts—included Shedeur Sanders (no relation to Raheim), Taylen Green, Zion Washington, Chris Edmonds, Mason Graham, Daniel Thomas, and Tyson Campbell.

Thomas and Campbell, who previously played together in Jacksonville, each led portions of the worship event with Chaplain Darby.
