  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The vote failed 198-218, with seven Democrats voting in favor of the short-term extension and 19 Republicans voting against it.

Johnson needed a two-thirds vote to pass the legislation under a fast-track process. He faced a dynamic also difficult within a GOP conference, where many members have also demanded reforms to the spy program.

The bill would have extended Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) through July 2. Democrats, however, refused to back the reauthorization due to objections to President Trump installing Bill Pulte as the acting director of national intelligence.

It's a little more concerning that they would've reauthorized it if it'd be someone else getting appointed to DNI, I'd like to think that they'd want to get warrantless tapping of American citizens squashed no matter who the DNI is, but hey, whatever gets us there.
