  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

At the end, those sealed will no longer be accessible to the adversary, you do understand that...
Do you understand that if a believer is not sinless they transgress the law

Why is it so hard to accept believers transgress the law, which is because they are not sinless in their flesh.
Not because they set out to live a life of transgression but because they will not perfectly obey without slip every applicable law of God.
David knew it:
Do not bring your servant into judgement, for NO ONE LIVING is(truly) righteous before you Psalms143:2

We will all need a saviour from sin as long as we dwell in a body of flesh.
The letter kills. It kills because you will never perfectly obey that letter, and therefore you stand guilty before it.
How many for example would claim to perfectly obey each and every literal command of Christ's in the gospels?
But the more we see our shortcomings, the more we depend on Jesus, the more willing we are to give God all the glory, praise and honour
Yes, we grow in holiness in our walk, but not to the point of perfectly obeying the letter of all applicable law and therefore being sinless

You need to read Gods Word, the saints are cleansed of their sin and sealed by the Holy Spirit, and Satan or his evil angels can no longer temp them. Sin will no longer have any place in Gods people, they will be ready to meet their redeemer, sanctified and absolved of sin.

Ephesians 4:30
And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

We see that God is merciful and full of grace but there is a limit...
Acts 17:30-31
And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commands all men every where to repent: Because he has appointed a day, So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that Man whom he has ordained; He has given assurance of this to all men, by raising him from the dead.

So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God, and to those who are repentant, their sins are blotted out..

Acts 3.18-19
18 But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled.
19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.

So everyone has a case pending in judgment, the saints first and afterwards the wicked, whether living or dead, so there is no way around it. So what will be the standard used..
James 2:10-12
10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.
12 So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

And what is the level to be reached.. We have it in Matthew 5:48.
Matthew 5:48
Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

So how can that be, how can we be cleansed of all offense against God and sanctified and absolved of sin, ready to be with Him. Well, we see that God has given us a promise that gives us a path to be with Him in the heavenly kingdom, to be with Him for eternity.

1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

We need to repent now, confess our sins, and be cleansed of any taint of corruption and all unrighteousness, ready for our redeemer

On the one hand you tell me christians are not sinless people, but on the other, you find it hard to accept they transgress the law. Im afraid if christians are not sinless they do indeed transgress the law, and that is according to a core tenet of your denomination:

Sin is the transgression of the law 1John3:4

You wrote, and I quote:
'''Only Those Far From Christ Claim Sinlessness/perfect obedience of the law—Why is it that so many claim to be holy and sinless/perfect obedience to the law? It is because they are so far from Christ. I have never dared to claim any such a thing.''''

A comment I completely agree with, well put

However, you now seem to be suggesting Christians will not commit sin, I am genuinely confused
Is it sin not to obey Jesus commands in the gospels? If so, how many people do you know who even try to obey each and every command of Christ?
Back to the second greatest commandment
In order not to sin/transgress the law concerning that commandment, you must perfectly, without slip love all those you come into contact with in thought, word and deed, including your enemies, those who may malign, harrass or persecute you.

John admitted he was not without sin didn't he(1John1:8)
We don't only need to read Gods word, we need to understand it

How do you reconcile this view with the fact that nearly all Christians continue to sin, and those who manage to overcome it are typically extremely elderly, or are else mentally disabled or are very young children (of the sort memorialists refuse to baptize, in a manner that we traditionalists believe contradicts the plain meaning of Matthew 28:19)?

Also implicit in your post appears to be a denial that Christ is the Word of God - which is a problem given that John 1:1-18 specifically identifies the Word as Jesus Christ. Scripture (graphe) is not the same as the Logos, but is rather a written icon of the Logos.

Our pious Catholic friend @Xeno.of.athens has eloquently articulated this point on several occasions, and it is an important point which needs to be made.

Christ is the Word, the Truth, the Way and the Light, and in Him the fullness of the godhead dwells bodily, for He is God in the flesh.

This gets particularly complex when we consider important issues such as baptism and the Eucharist.

How many people were saved at the Flood.... Salvation is not universal, only those who choose Christ, turn to Him and repent from sin, and allow the transformation through the Holy Spirit, so they can have Christ in them and them in Christ so they truly know Him will Christ say "Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world".

How many people were saved at the Flood.... Salvation is not universal,

Red herring fallacy, I never endorsed Universalism. Universalism from an Orthodox perspective was anathematized at the Fifth Ecumenical Synod around 500 AD.

Please retract that statement and refrain from accusing me of doctrines my church explicitly rejects.

Indeed, but the issue is that this transformation can take an entire lifetime to accomplish; it is not instantaneous. St. Sisoes the Great on his deathbed said “Truly I cannot know if I have even begun to repent!” when his followers said “Surely you are sinless, you don’t need to repent” (he was praying for more time for repentence). After declaring that, his eyes lit up, and he said “My savior has come!” and he reposed, his face aglow.

Like Metropolitan Kallistos Ware, memory eternal, I hope to die as Abba Sisoes did.
