  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Where are all the healers in the world?

I have had mental health episodes since the age of 19. Looking back my life has been full of so much miseries, unemployment, poverty... I feel like I was simply cursed by so many things going wrong. And now the prospect of an early death terrifies me.
Where are all the healers? In our Catholic church, we never had the opportunity to experience someone with the gift of healing. There was only the same repetitive theology all the time, but never any spiritual gifts. Are people more interested in theology than in gifts? I don't know what to make of any of this.

I believe that some of the gifts, like tongues, healing and miracles are situational. It's not that someone has the gift of healing and they can just go around and heal anyone they want. Christ didn't even do that. So I believe that anyone can have the gift of healing for a certain situation or time. Essentially, God directly tells a person to heal someone and for that moment in time, they are given the gift of healing. But that doesn't mean they can then go out and heal other people without Gods direction.

The idea that someone can just heal anyone and everyone is a charismatic theology, and its been proven false by a lot of people being hurt by NOT getting healed by these people when they've laid hands on them and prayed.

But if you're terrified, you need to run to God, instead of looking for someone with the gift of healing. Seek the great healer.

Spiritual gifts are dispensed by the Holy Spirit at His discretion. If your church doesn't have someone with the gift it doesn't prevent you from praying and seeking help. Medicine, therapy and related services are part of it. All infirmities aren't removed and the biblical precedent suggests it was done for the Lord's glory in most instances. My experience with the phenomenon was through prayer not the laying of hands and I was told what to ask. It wasn't my idea.

You can ask the priest in your church for anointing with Holy Oils. They should have the gifts of the Holy Spirit to heal. Anointing with Holy Oils is asked of in James to do to those who are sick by elders The anointing of the sick can be for those who are dying or who are very unwell. I was baptised in a Catholic church. In 2024 I went to one and I asked a group who were there to do rosary prayers if there was anyone strong in faith who would pray for me for sickness and someone stood up in faith and prayed for me.

I go to an Anglican church regularly and once a month they put on healing and wholeness services for healing and spiritual wholeness. I have been going for a while. I go to manage one of my conditions. Look around perhaps for services like this.

Keep on praying yourself.

Btw, I got healing at church after taking the Sacraments without praying to God for it.

Nevertheless, God has his own will and not everybody gets healing so try and see if you have exhausted all options of self care and talked with your doctor about medication. The two can work together at times.

(James 5 14:15)
"Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him".

God heals in lots of ways. Could be as simple as getting a revelation of his will from a verse of scripture. Outside of modern medicine, I would suggest that is the most common method. Sure it is nice if someone prays, anoints with oil, or lays hands on you. You can ask God to send you others that can help as well. Under no circumstances should you be under any condemnation.

That is right. The Apostles did not host 'healing conferences.' It was all unplanned. We do not see them pitching a tent & saying 'come & be healed this Saturday'.

Also, is 'healing' even always something we would recognize as supernatural? Surely we don't recognize teaching as super-natrual. Doesn't follow 'healing' is automatically 'supernatural' & other gifts like 'teaching' aren't. It would follow a plain old medical doctor who is also a Christian is using their gift of healing.
In Bible times there wasn't a fine line between 'super-natural' & 'natural.' We live in a post-modern society.
