  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

what happens when we walk after the flesh? back into condemnation?
Condemnation? If we return to our self-serving ways we have once again shut ourselves off from God's will. He keeps trying to get us to walk His path, not ours. We are slow learners.

Those who are in Christ Jesus do not walk after the flesh; they walk after the Spirit. Walking after the flesh refers to an habitual way of life; and real Christians (ones who have been born again, by the Holy Spirit) do not live lives characterised by sin.

1 John 3:8,9 (E.M.T.V.)
8 He who practises sin is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. For this reason the Son of God appeared, that He might destroy the works of the devil.
9 No-one who has been born of God practises sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God.

But they still fail on occasion. A simple thing like not letting someone into your traffic lane (deserving or not) is a failure to follow God's will that we act in servitude to all.

cannot sin?

why are christians warned against sin constantly in scripture

example

Gal 6:7-8

7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

and
Romans 8:13
For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

Yes, we all fail on occasion, sadly. That is why I did not even mention the false teaching of sinless perfection in this life. I thought that "...do not live lives characterised by sin." was simple and clear enough.

Who said anything about Christians being unable to sin? I said that real Christians do not live lives characterised by sin.

God created a kingdom in earth. From the time of A&E until now, mankind has refused God's will and taken that kingdom for self, using it for self, and creating all the evils and oppressions and violence as a result. Jesus' good news was that God was going to take it back. Don't get too attached to the world we have made in our own image.

No; it means that there is a "violent" struggle and change when one is saved. The experience is very intense, involving very strong conviction of sin, great sorrow for sin and heartfelt repentance; great joy and faith in the Lord for forgiveness and new life; an intense love for the Lord, and an absolute determination to please him. Being saved is the spiritual equivalent of being hit by a huge lorry (and you hitting it) - it changes you and you know it's happened (those around you also can't help but notice the change).

Before? By acting in servitude to both God and each other, enemies included. There is partial salvation before death in that God will encourage, and keep His own who are loyal to Him and not other gods or humans, helping deliver us from evil,. Not only from others but what we may bring upon ourselves by not acting properly, in servitude to all, but instead pursuing selfishness.

1 Cor. 1:18 (W.E.B.) For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are dying, but to us who are saved it is the power of God.

2 Cor. 2:15
For we are a sweet aroma of Christ to God, in those who are saved, and in those who perish;

Eph. 2:4-6
4 But God, being rich in mercy, for his great love with which he loved us,
5 even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
6 and raised us up with him, and made us to sit with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

Eph. 2:8,9
8 for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
9 not of works, that no one would boast.

2 Tim. 1:8,9
8 Therefore don’t be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner; but endure hardship for the Good News according to the power of God,
9 who saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before times eternal,

Titus 3:4-6
4 But when the kindness of God our Saviour and his love toward mankind appeared,
5 not by works of righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy, he saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,
6 whom he poured out on us richly, through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

As you can see, believers in Jesus Christ ARE saved. There is, however, even better to come, when our corrupt bodies will be resurrected and we will have unbroken fellowship with the Lord.

heliotrope!

greek word for the sunflowers ability to move and always orient towards the sun and receive its benefits!

As an example to us to always orient towards God and His will!

because of the fall we are defective and out of order!

we need God's constant help so ask and you shall receive, watch and pray, and self-denial with the practice of the virtues and the gifts of the spirit, so we conform to Christ and Him crucified!

not not saved but in the process of salvation!

eph 2 refers to the general redemption when Christ quickend or brought us to life in grace, not our personal salvation!

To have eternal salvation we must abide in Christ and bear fruit (Lk 3:9 Jn 15:1-6) and endure to the end (mt 10:22 rev 2:10) and be judged faithful then we enter into eternal salvation!

1 cor 13:13 three are eternal faith hope and charity

saved or an assurance of being saved is a sin against the virtue of hope!

hope for salvation? no one hopes for that which they already possess!
