  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Nuclear family just sounds like patriarchy trying to maintain control. A man isolating his family so that that they need to depend on him. It isn’t really natural. Yes, man + woman = children is biology, but socially the “village“, and multigenerational living is much more natural for social creatures. The more working together the better.

I don’t understand why it is called “pride month.” I have a pretty good idea about what these people do with parts of their bodies, but I have no idea why they should be proud of it.
It’s kind of weird that you think about what they do with parts of the bodies at all.

Not really. I worked with many of that community, and they talked about what they did a lot. I still don’t see what they should be proud of.

I would say it's less about what they do than who they are. And they have just as much right to have pride in who they are as anyone else.

I guess it would look that way if your heterosexual relationship is just about what you do with body parts.

That is a good point, but it isn’t what they display in parades and such. I knew one homosexual couple that had been together for many years, and they didn’t display their affection for each other any more than the average heterosexual couple. I’m sure they loved each other, which is something valuable to them. It is the sexual preferences that are on display not affection and devotion.

Yeah pride parades in certain cities are (or were) over the top imo. But thats a tiny minority of pride events.

So what else do they do that is commendable?
Its basically just about being visible and asserting that they have human rights like everyone else. Thats my understanding anyway. Im not a participant.

What “human rights” are they lacking?

It seems like many people want gay people to just go away. So I guess the right to not have to go away. But as I hinted at, Im probably not the best person to ask.

You don’t mind that gay folk exist, you just don’t want to see (too much) evidence of them existing…is that close?

That is probably an exaggeration. I primarily object to them promoting their sexual practices, particularly to children. If they are not believing Christians or Jews, I can understand their lack of shame, but that still doesn’t mean they should be proud of their practices, nor should the practices be celebrated. Consenting adults can do what they like without proclaiming it to the world.

They are proud of working for them to not be subjects of discrimination due to who they are attracted to or how they identify themselves. They believe that struggle is worthy of respect and something to be proud of.

I look forward to weddings/marriages being made private affairs that are not spoken of nor announced and no longer flaunted with symbols worn prominently by those involved in them.

Why is “that struggle is worthy of respect and something to be proud of”?

Traditionally, weddings and marriage were celebrated because they were a symbol of the growth of the tribe. The fact that some weddings are now merely expensive performances is unpleasant.
