  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Mark of the Beast will be implemented and the whole world will follow after the Beast in its work or setting its mark, in a world wide law. The Bible declares that before the coming of the Lord, Satan will work "with all power and signs and lying wonders, and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness;" and they that "received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved," will be left to receive "strong delusion, that they should believe a lie."

2 Thessalonians 2:9-11
9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

In the issue of the Mark of the Beast the world will be divided into two great classes, those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus, and those who worship the beast and his image and receive his mark. We know that the apostate church and the power of the state will unite in power to compel "all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond" , to receive "the mark of the beast," yet the people of God will not receive it.

Revelation 13:11-16
11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.
12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

As the seal of God, the Sabbath has become the special point of controversy throughout Christendom, and religious and secular authorities have combined to enforce the observance of the Sunday, the Mark of the Beast. But the refusal of a small minority, a remnant, to yield to the popular demand will come to a head. It will be urged that the few who stand in opposition to this day of the apostate church and a law of the state ought not to be tolerated; that it is better for them to be taken out than for all the nations to be thrown into confusion and their interpretation of the rule of law be ignored. The same argument was brought against Christ by the "rulers of the people." "It is expedient for us," said Caiaphas, "that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not."

John 11:49-50
49 And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,
50 Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.

So how do church and state unite to bring this world wide law of Sunday keeping, well, its already in the works. The UN is pushing it as well as the apostate church and the “new” commandments could include a worldwide day of rest….as in, a Sabbath, yet it would be on another day.

The Pope is at the center of this idea and his Laudato Si Treaty is at the center of this movement, with the world governments being brought together in agreement. In October 2021, Pope Francis and other religious leaders made a joint appeal for leaders of COP 26 to take concrete steps to save the planet from a climate crisis. These steps support the Paris Agreements and Agenda 2030, whose goals are to reduce carbon emissions at any cost. They went forward with the advocation of the creation of a Green Sabbath, where each person is required to “give the environment a break one day a week”, and Climate Sundays where they preach the religion of climate change.

Here is what they want to do..
"One day a week, minimize the need for more goods, minimize the use of natural resources, minimize the emission of carbon dioxide and other pollutants.

The Sabbath is said to be a foretaste of the world to come (Babylonian Talmud, Berakhot 57b). Literally. If you care about our future, about your well-being, observe a real sabbath day of rest. It helps cultivate community, self-discipline, inner calm and contentment. One powerful weapon in the fight against environmental deterioration and climate disaster may just be an age-old spiritual technology"

Green Sabbath Project

The Green Sabbath Project believes that our sabbath days must become a time of active avoidance of environmental vandalism, a time for programmatic congregational and individual reflection on how we are undoing creation. Our main focus is education and advocacy. We feature readings, crowd-sourced li

And we see the power behind it..
"In January 2024, a Washington Post article in the climate section, titled “Why Reviving a 2,600-Year-Old Spiritual Practice Made My Life Better,” pointed to Pope Francis’ argument about “Sunday in his 2015 ‘Laudato Si,’ an encyclical about caring for the natural world. Not resting is not just bad for the soul, he says, but it’s also bad for the Earth. The constant drive to produce and consume more is squandering natural resources, and it prevents us from treating the living world, and one another, with dignity and respect. The Sabbath forces us to consider how we spend all our days.

A Green Sabbath—or God’s Sabbath?

Some propose a weekly rest day to help heal the earth. This sounds noble, but could it end up being just another counterfeit for God’s seventh-day Sabbath?

“Sunday, like the Jewish Sabbath, is meant to be a day which heals our relationships with God, with ourselves, with others and with the world.”

The Pope at that times was expanding on the Catholic teaching that Sunday is sacred, trying to give it new meaning for a modern audience in a secular age.

Here is from Pastor Doug Batchelor..

"PRESIDENT TRUMP SIGNS DECLARATION MAKING SUNDAY A ‘NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER’

Now I expect someone is going to misunderstand this post. I am in favor of national days of prayer. It’s biblical. Several times in the Bible during times of a national crisis, Kings (and Queens in the case of Esther), called people to special times prayer.

“And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. So Judah gathered together to ask help from the LORD; and from all the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD.” (2 Chronicles 20:3–4, NKJV)

In addition, I would guess most Christians have already been praying for those dear people in Houston and East Texas reeling from the recent floods. And of course this is not every Sunday but just September 3rd.

But still, for Sabbath keeping Christians, when you see the president in the Oval Office surrounded by government and religious leaders signing a declaration to especially recognize Sunday… well let’s just say it conjures up sobering images of what’s coming. Here’s a quote from the declaration;

“I call on all Americans and houses of worship throughout the Nation to join in one voice of prayer, as we seek to uplift one another and assist those suffering from the consequences of this terrible storm,” Trump says.

Meanwhile, the governor of Texas has also called on his fellow Texans and people around the country to pray for Texas on Sunday."

Here is from the website on Ellen White.

"The National Sunday Law

The Prediction

Ellen White not a few times predicted that Sunday worship would one day be enforced by law, and that obedience to the fourth commandment would be prohibited. In 1882 she claimed to have foreseen these events in vision 36 years before (Testimonies for the Church, vol. 5, p. 137). Indeed, by 1851 a vision along these lines had been committed to writing, a vision received in June 1850 (Experience and Views, p. 55; Early Writings, p. 64).

The following is one of her many statements on this topic, a selection first published in 1884, and then revised and republished in 1888 and 1911:

The dignitaries of church and state will unite to bribe, persuade, or compel all classes to honor the Sunday. The lack of divine authority will be supplied by oppressive enactments. Political corruption is destroying love of justice and regard for truth; and even in free America, rulers and legislators, in order to secure public favor, will yield to the popular demand for a law enforcing Sunday observance. Liberty of conscience, which has cost so great a sacrifice, will no longer be respected. In the soon-coming conflict we shall see exemplified the prophet's words: "The dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ." Revelation 12:17.—Great Controversy, p. 592.

The 1880's

By the 1880's, it wasn't hard to see how such a scenario just might occur. In that decade Seventh Day Baptists and Seventh-day Adventists were imprisoned and fined for working on Sunday, while Sunday keepers could often work on Sunday unhindered. Then in 1888 came a national Sunday law bill introduced by U.S. Senator Henry Blair. The Women's Christian Temperance Union circulated a petition in support of passage of this bill, and that petition drive reportedly obtained 13 million signatures, or roughly 20% of the population of the country at the time.

Thus her prediction almost came true over a century ago, but the controversy gradually died down, and though there have been rumblings over the decades since, we still have not seen a national Sunday law." Sunday Laws: The Prediction & the 1880's

And more..

"A Brief History

The Adventist Church and Religious Liberty

Since the beginning of its history, the Seventh-day Adventist Church has focused on religious liberty as a core conviction rooted in Scripture. Adventists human history as a great conflict between God and Satan. Within this conflict, freedom of choice reflects God’s loving character. It also helps explain the fall of the angels and the fall of our first parents; events recorded in the first book of the Bible. All people were created with the freedom to love and serve God, or to reject Him. Love cannot exist apart from freedom.

Persecution is Satan's trademark and he has practiced it throughout human history. Though his appearance and methods have adapted to different contexts and cultures, he always used the same methods—coercion and persecution. Jesus told His disciples that they would be persecuted before His return. He said, “You will be persecuted and put to death; you will be hated by all nations because of me.”

For Adventists, religious freedom has a strong biblical, historical, and theological foundation. It also has an important eschatological dimension. This understanding was articulated early by John N. Andrews in 1851. He understood the importance of religious freedom in the context of the end time. In 1864, as Adventists wrestled with military service during the Civil War and their commitment to noncombatancy, Andrews explicitly connected religious freedom to what would today be described as a human right. A few years later, as Adventists opposed the National Reform Association’s efforts to enact religious legislation, including Sunday laws, freedom of conscience became a central concern.

Ellen White, whose influence shaped the organization and working methods of the Adventist Church, stated that: “We are not doing the will of God if we sit in quietude, doing nothing to preserve liberty of conscience … Let there be more earnest prayer; and then let us work in harmony with our prayers.”

Beginnings

In the late 1880s, the small Adventist Church made a difference in the USA by opposing Sunday laws. As observers of the Sabbath on Saturday, Adventists viewed any action from the State to impose another day of rest as a violation of religious freedom and a betrayal of the First Amendment of the United States Constitution. The State should not impose a day for religious observance; such matters belong to conscience. In this struggle, Adventists saw themselves as defending the biblical truth that the seventh day of the week is the Sabbath day of rest. They also saw themselves as defenders of the heritage of the American founding fathers such as Jefferson and Madison, that the State should not interfere in the religious life of its citizens.

In 1884 the Church published The Sabbath Sentinel, with 500,000 copies circulated. It became the American Sentinel in 1886. Three years later, in February 1889, the Church appointed a State Press Committee which published books and brochures on religious freedom issues under the name of “The Sentinel Library.”

Several years of intense activity led to the 1889 launching of the National Religious Liberty Association. This took place during a meeting held at the Tabernacle in Battle Creek, Michigan. In the declaration signed by 110 charter members, we read: “We deny the right of any civil government to legislate on religious questions. We believe it is the right, and should be the privilege, of every man to worship according to the dictates of his own conscience. “The understanding of religious freedom was firmly grounded in the concept of church-state separation. In 1890, the association collected 250,000 signatures against religious legislation presented to both the Senate and in the House. As the activities of the association spread to other countries around the world, by 1893 the National Association became the International Religious Liberty Association (IRLA). Its work was later integrated into the Church through the creation of the Public Affairs and Religious Liberty Department. This integration ensured that religious liberty advocacy would remain a permanent part of the Church’s structure. The IRLA continued to exist, though no longer as an independent body. The concept of an independent, broadly inclusive association did not re-emerge until 1946.

An Official Ministry

The Department of Religious Liberty was organized in 1901, under the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. A few years later, in 1906, the department began publishing Liberty, A Magazine of Religious Freedom. At the time, it was the only magazine devoted to religious freedom in the Americas.

In the 1920s, the Sunday law issue returned to the U.S. Congress in Washington, DC as well as several states. In 1926–1927, the Department of Religious Liberty secured more than eight million signatures to petition against various bills. According to head of the department, C. S. Longacre, it was “the most vigorous and intensive campaign for signatures on petitions which had ever been launched in our history.” By 1927, there were approximately 250,000 Seventh-day Adventist members worldwide (1930:314,253).

A few years later, in 1931, the issue of the Calendar Reform was brought before the League of Nations. Such a change would have created significant challenges for Sabbath-keepers. In response, 220,000 signatures were secured in the United States against the proposal, and 236,000 signatures came from other countries. Neither the Sunday laws nor the calendar reform proposals were implemented. Before World War II, the IRLA encouraged the creation of national and regional associations in Canada, Australia, Philippines, and across Europe. During the period of the war, the activities of the department were largely curtailed and less visible.

Conclusion

The Adventist interest in religious freedom has been shaped by a particular historical and theological experience within the Christian world. It has to do with our eschatological vision, our reading of history, and, of course, our theology; and it is reinforced by our experience as a religious minority seeking to live faithfully—particularly in observing the Sabbath on Saturday. This experience fosters openness and solidarity with others who face persecution or discrimination because of their beliefs." https://www.adventistliberty.org/history

It’s an absolute tragedy that so many laws to protect the rights of traditional Christians to worship on Sunday have been repealed in recent years. It also has the effect of making the idea of a Worldwide Sunday Law something that a man like me can only sigh and lament the impossibility of, while taking us into the realm of dubious interpretations of Scriptural texts (since if such a law were coming the trend would not have been overwhelmingly in the opposite direction almost since the time this doctrine originated).

Now while a worldwide implication is undesirable since unlike some I am not comfortable with government on the scale of the human oikumene, it would be right and proper to see new Sunday laws, Sunday laws with teeth, laws that move beyond the mere restriction and limitation of the sale of alcohol on such days and instead preclude the state from taking any action which could even inadvertently interfere with Sunday worship, on pain of criminal penalties.

Who knows the truth?
Christ brings it in His Word and through the Holy Spirit unveils it.

And He reveals it to those who truly seek..
