  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Apology for role in slavery

So in a global context we have no need to acknowledge what was condoned in the US. because it was happening everywhere to people of all races?
We need to know about history and not a distorted ideology presented by the DEI advocates.

The historical facts about racism and slavery are often distorted
and what is true is ignored.

I think Catholic social justice teaches intergenerational solidarity. We stand on shoulders. We owe something to the future.

We seem all about celebrating 250 years and our connection with the founding patriots, celebrating the freedom they earned. Meanwhile keeping the darker side in shadows. Expunge it like it was nit so bad.

I don't know if he supports DEI, but the Catholic Church has long been opposed to slavery and
St John Paul II apologized for the Church. Most Americans today have nothing to do with slavery
or racism and should not be driven into guilt because of the past. BTW, I'm French Acadian and many Acadians were
sold into slavery after the British dysphoria from what is now called Nova Scotia. British today have
nothing to do with that event and should not be held accountable for it.

We don't want to overlook the fact that it was the United States fought a war to end slavery, where roughly 700,000 people died. But we have much more to stop, over a million die by abortion each year in the United States.

Yes, fought a war with itself with a lot of sore losers.

I see the analogy with abortion. There also some refuse to see the humanity and want to treat life in the womb as property rather than person.
