  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am curious why Republicans ignore Trump's wrong doing.

Trump’s statements on Jan 6 were about as close as any American politician of either party has gotten in recent history.

I’m not sure what your point is. Do you have examples of Dems doing this?

Did you forget what the topic of the thread is?
Trump’s statement was “Go in peace and make your VOICES heard.” There was nothing about raising an army (and if that was what he was suggesting, people forgot to bring their weapons and ammunition and other offensive weapons), or storming the castle (in fact, the one FBI implant who SUGGESTED that was called out by all the people around him and told him that was not what they were there for). Y”all just kill me by suggesting that Trump wants to take away our freedom of speech, and yet when he suggests using our freedom of speech you insist he is calling for violence. (AND when the left uses violence it is called freedom of speech. Project much?)

This is why nobody on the right pays attention to the “outrage” of the left.

Trump’s statement was “Go in peace and make your VOICES heard.”

That was hardly all of what he said.

And yet some did decide to storm the capitol. Why did they do that? Where did they get the idea that something untoward was happening within? Why did they feel compelled to stop it?

Y”all just kill me by suggesting that Trump wants to take away our freedom of speech, and yet when he suggests using our freedom of speech you insist he is calling for violence.

Trump's state department is currently trying to deport someone just for protesting. His FCC chairman leaned on ABC to fire Jimmy Kimmel in the wake of the Charlie Kirk killing for comments that didn't justify the killing and were, by any standard, mild. That was hardly the only example of Trump and his FCC chair seeking to chill speech and the press.

I would describe Trump's comments on Jan 6 not as an overt call for violence (e.g. "kill em all!"), but more of a push towards it (e.g. "who will rid me of this <darned> priest?"). He spent weeks fomenting the anger, ignored warning signs on that day (insisting that they be allowed into the secure area with weapons), and, when they tipped over into violence, did almost nothing to try to calm them down, despite being asked to, until almost 3 hours into it. And even in his video telling them to go home, he still repeated the same stolen election lies that riled them up in the first place. What he was encouraging that day wasn't merely "speech."

This is why nobody on the right pays attention to the “outrage” of the left.
The subject of the OP is why the right ignores his wrongdoings. I'll say to you what I said to someone else: forget my "outrage". Don't listen to me just for my sake. Why doesn't your side look at what he's doing on your own and call out behaviors that are problematic by your own previously-articulated standards?

Leftists making claims about Trump’s wrongdoings is no different from conservatives making claims about Obama’s or Biden’s wrongdoings. It’s all in the eye of the beholder.

Why not cite the entire speech?

And you didn't answer my question: if Trump's message was one of peace and civility, where did they get the idea to storm the capitol and go after the legislators? Why did they deem that an appropriate response to his message?

First off...I voted for Trump...but only cause I thought he was less corrupt than Harris. Also we had know other options. But I have noticed republicans complained about immigrationm, cost of groceries and gas...and yet Obama deported more people than Trump...and groceries and gas are more expensive during Trumps second term and yet republicans have know problem with it.

Both Clinton and Trump are on the Epstien list...the combined circumstantial evidence says both Clinton and Trump are sexual predators and neither republican or democrat actually cares.

An Epstien Victim one who was under 15 and did not want her name released accuse Trump of raping her. Since the 70s Trump has been accused of rape almost 30 times and the big excuse from republicans is he was never convicted. Niether was Clinton but every republican I know believes he is a sexual predator.

In all probability Donald Trump is a rapist...if he was not rich he would have been imprisoned decades ago. I just want to understand how Republicans can ignore what he is.
the exact same way the dems ignore all the rapes, thefts, murders etc on their side. not saying Trump raped any one -- if you understand money and I do to some extent, rape it not required, money will buy what ever you want. what ever

and Trump is very smart -- I can not image him doing something that would let someone blackmail him.

you do understand the problems Trump is attempting to fix --- were all caused by the left. inflation is from the left and the RINOs
obomobus sent billions in cash to Iran, do you remember?? plane loads of cash

me think you on left side, Harris less corrupt?? if that were so it was from not having the opportunity.
nothing will be made right by man, ever --- it will take The KING of Kings

not justifying any one -- I do not even vote --no point in it,, all corrupt.

The Bottom line: politics will not be IN THE KINGDOM, and I thank Jesus Christ for that fact.

I believe that not everything Trump does is “wrongdoing” as the left claims. But at least I can acknowledge what I believe is wrong when he does it. Unlike the left who refuse to admit any of the wrongs their side does.

If you want to start a thread about that, go for it. This thread is about Trump.
I think your idea of an insurrection and my idea of an insurrection are completely different.

Your idea of an insurrection is when a Capitol cop shoots rubber bullets into a crowd and starts a riot making people run into the tunnel for cover, and a guard or cop opening the barriers to allow the crowd gathered on another side in to sight-see. And along the way someone attacks a cop for an unknown (to me) reason and rightly gets sentenced to jail time (but the cop lived, so that’s good), and someone suggested breaking the glass in a door and an unarmed woman gets killed as she is climbing through the glass. There was some misdemeanor defacing of the building done, and those persons should be rightfully charged for their crimes, while thousands of others meander around the building taking pictures. That’s what you consider an insurrection.

Meanwhile, what I consider an insurrection is what happened during the Summer of Love in all the liberal-controlled cities in which 48 people were murdered, billions of dollars in damage was incurred to public as well as federal buildings, cops were hindered from making arrests, and people were held hostage in their homes because of the unchecked violence, and in their cars because rioters blocked the streets. All done to force policy changes across the nation. And it worked. THATS WHAT AN INSURRECTION IS. Y’all need to learn the definition of that word.

That's nice. Why are you talking about the definition of "insurrection" when nobody else in this thread has used the word? I haven't even broached the concept in this thread. I've talked about it in other threads. Did you get mixed up as to where you were?

In this thread, I asked you questions about why the crowd did what they did and you haven't answered them. With the number of questions you've dodged, it's starting to look like Trump's wrongdoings aren't the only things you're ignoring.

First, what Trump wrongdoings do you acknowledge? Second, who exactly is this “left” you speak of because it isn’t me.

Maybe he realizes that some questions aren't worth answering, especially when the questions are clearly intended to trap someone in a position that you intend to exploit. Not much different than talking to a police officer who's on a fishing expedition.
Besides, how is anyone here going to be able to answer for what a crowd did? A crowd is made of many individuals, each with their own motivations and intentions.

How would I "trap" anybody with that question unless I was right?

Besides, how is anyone here going to be able to answer for what a crowd did? A crowd is made of many individuals, each with their own motivations and intentions.

Well, he's already taken a stab at identifying the motivations of multiple crowds here:

Your idea of an insurrection is when a Capitol cop shoots rubber bullets into a crowd and starts a riot making people run into the tunnel for cover, and a guard or cop opening the barriers to allow the crowd gathered on another side in to sight-see.

(emphasis added)

so why don't you let him speculate on this one? Or at the very least let him dodge his own questions. You've got enough of your own to continue dodging (e.g. mine in post 35).

I read back through the thread and caught something I missed earlier, about the protestors killed by federal agents in Minnesota:

Again, nothing but hateful hyperbole. Those people who died didn’t because they broke the laws and put themselves in places doing things that were illegal. It’s sad that they died because they didn’t have to, but that’s what happens when they take their walking orders from corrupt politicians who encourage them to do illegal things (as mentioned in my post you quoted.)

Now juxtapose that with this, about Ashlee Babbit:

someone suggested breaking the glass in a door and an unarmed woman gets killed as she is climbing through the glass.

Trump’s statements on Jan 6 were about as close as any American politician of either party has gotten in recent history.
All his comments have been proven to have been heavily edited and taken out of context. Yet you continue to parrot the false narrative the media pumped out for years and show yourself to be nothing more than a useful idiot.

Oh?

I linked to the transcript of his entire speech nine posts before yours. Is that heavily edited and taken out of context?

Some of us do, in fact, go back to the original sources. Why don't you go read it and point out where I was wrong? If I'm such an idiot, it shouldn't be too hard for you.

Ashli Babbitt didn’t attack anyone. She was unarmed, in the process of climbing through a broken glass door and she was shot even though she was no more of a threat that a taser (at the very most) couldn’t have handled.

In Minnesota, Renee Good used her car as a weapon and hit the police officer with it, and he shot literally to protect himself. In the other instance, Alex Pretti carried a gun into a riot situation (as he had a week or two earlier when he keyed the car of a federal agent). And while his death was likely preventable, anyone with an ounce of sense in his head who had taken a firearms course prior to obtaining a firearm would know that situations like that are the LAST place you are supposed to carry to. And when you have a firearm, the FIRST thing you do is listen to the cop and identify that you have a firearm.

This response ought to answer the OP's question. Why do Republicans ignore Trump's wrongdoings?

Because you guys tell yourselves lies about it. You twist reality to fit your narrative, to ease your cognitive dissonance and relieve you of the burden of considering that maybe somebody on your side did something wrong.

Ashley Babbit was "climbing through a broken glass door" the same as a burglar is "climbing through a broken window" into your house in the middle of the night. She was deliberately breeching a barricade behind which she knew elected officials were taking shelter and/or fleeing. She was not wandering around looking for a good selfie spot; she he was pursuing them with nefarious intent. And she was doing it because of lies that Donald Trump told her. She was the victim of his con.

Then you turn around and blame Alex Pretti for being dumb in bringing his weapon to the protest. I agree that that was dumb. But at no point did Pretti threaten anybody or unholster his weapon. The most criminal thing you could accuse him of doing is interfering with an officer and even that's a bit of a stretch, because he was set upon for stepping between an agent and a woman he was accosting. It was a bad shoot, but that didn't stop Kristi Noem or the rest of the Trump administration from going to the press and lying about Pretti's actions.

And now here you are spinning more of this propaganda.

They were both where they weren’t supposed to be. He was carrying a weapon he wasn’t supposed to have and had acted aggressively against ICE cops in the recent past prior to him being shot. Ashli Babbit was UNARMED and not a threat to anyone. She was not even in a position to be a threat to anyone. You excuse Pretti and lash out at Babbit when she was the only person killed in a supposed insurrection orchestrated by Trump where only Trump supporters were killed. This is the most laughable story the left has ever concocted.

He didn't come close to suggesting any of his political opponents be taken out. He complained about weak Republicans and spoke about election corruption.

Not true. He was protesting on the street, which is perfectly fine. As far as I understand, he was legally carrying, which is also fine, albeit misguided.

and had acted aggressively against ICE cops in the recent past prior to him being shot.

Even if that's true (I'm not bothering to look it up), it's irrelevant, because we have video, from multiple angles, of this incident, in which he did not act aggressively against them.

Ashli Babbit was UNARMED and not a threat to anyone. She was not even in a position to be a threat to anyone.

That is just wildly untrue. Are you trying to lie to us or did you not watch the whole video?

Here's it is:

The swearing is all beeped out, so it should be fine with the mods.

The door is locked and barricaded with a pile of chairs. Babbitt is part of an angry mob outside the door that chases off a few police officers and then spends a solid 30 second breaking through the bulletproof glass. By any reasonable measure (especially that of the perspective of the people on the other side of the door), she is posing a threat. That is threatening behavior. If a mob was outside your front door trying to break in, you would call the police and you would be more than justified in shooting anybody who managed to break in.

I may not convince you, but I hope some other folks reading this watch this video and see just how divorced from reality your take is.
