Michael Flynn cited by DoD for unauthorized payments from Turkey and Russia; $40,000 penalty

Investigators determined that Flynn received nearly $450,000 from Turkish and Russian interests in 2015, including for an appearance in Moscow alongside President Vladimir Putin, but found no records that he had sought government approval beforehand. Their findings are detailed in a January 2021 memo to the Army released through the Freedom of Information Act on Thursday.

The Army notified Flynn in a May 2 letter, obtained by The Washington Post, that it would seek to recoup $38,557.06 from him, zeroing in on money and in-kind compensation he received for a gala dinner celebrating the 10th anniversary of RT, the Kremlin-run news agency.

Craig R. Schmauder, an Army lawyer, wrote in the letter that Flynn’s failure “to obtain the approvals of the Secretary of the Army and the Secretary of State resulted in a violation of the Emoluments Clause,” a provision of the U.S. Constitution that prohibits retired military personnel from receiving money from foreign governments without prior authorization.

I think you guys are going to be hating life in the future. Its the old saying about "people who live in glass houses should not throw stones", and more and more is coming out on your guys side. Looking forward to the midterms and what may happen after that and whether or not a certain president actually steps down for an obvious face saving medical reason as well as "to make history by having the first female president of the US!"

I'm generous, so if you want to talk about Flynn's secret phone call with Sergey Kislyak, making some arrangements a little ahead of Trump taking office. Or lying to the FBI and the Vice President about these contacts. Or his guilty plea and pardon. These are all welcome as being within the scope of the discussion of Flynn's coordination with foreign governments.

Or even Mike Flynn in general. Like his decision to take the 5th when asked a softball question about whether he agreed with the peaceful transition of power in the United States.

It's also kind of funny that someone who seems to have a problem with the very idea of democratic elections would now be part of an "elections integrity" organization. Anyway, the man's whole post-Army career is on the table.

Kind of funny looking back on one of the first CF posts that mentions both Flynn and Putin from 2016:

You should know general Flynn has stated numerous times in the press, the United States must not under any circumstances go to war with Russia, and the priority for the U.S. should be working with Vladimir Putin as an ally in the War on Terror.

I actually enjoy the veiled threats of what the Republican Christian Nationalists are going to do to people who have the wrong ideology. It's a little like visiting a fruit vendor. You know just what kind of fruit you're getting.

"The half-million dollars Flynn’s firm received has been previously reported. But the writing of the suspicious activity report, and its receipt by the Treasury Department’s 's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, or FinCEN, has not.

So "some" are like always going lala land over this saying things there is no proof what so ever. The fact we know those investigating it will as of right now say? Yes nothing. So hmm we need to add to the story. "looks like money laundering". HAHA Posting just the facts does not make story now days.

I guess Flynn has learned his lesson and has registered as a foreign agent this time.

Far-right blogger Scott McMahan posted a Foreign Agents Registration Act form Monday that was dated October 2025, and stated that Donald Trump’s former national security adviser was now making $100,000 per month from the Republic of Srpska. The confederated entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina is run by Milorad Dodik, a key ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
