“Testify to Love,” a song popularized by the contemporary Christian music (CCM) group Avalon, was always intended to be about inclusivity, according to the original cowriters. A May 15 rerelease of “Testify to Love” is being embraced by the LGBTQ+ community, and the song’s cowriters have indicated that people are just now understanding their message.
Avalon’s version was extremely successful and became the longest-running Christian single of the 1990s. It was later recorded by other artists, including Wynonna Judd for the “Touched by an Angel” soundtrack.
On May 15, Michael Passons, a founding member of Avalon; Melissa Greene, a former member of Avalon; and country singer Ty Herndon released a new version of “Testify to Love,” which is being embraced by the gay community. A music video for the song dropped May 29, ending with text that says, “God’s love is for everyone. No exceptions.”
