  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The mentality is disturbing to me. I consider it anti-Judeo/Christian. There are so many worthy causes and yet they think exposing children to this stuff at a young age is important. Additionally they want federal taxpayer funds to pay for it, and I am a taxpayer.

While I'm not terribly concerned about the "whether it is or isn't anti-Judeo/Christian" aspect... One could say the same about evolution being taught in science classes, and that's something I support...

I don't think fed $$$ should be used to further a political agenda of one particular party/faction in the eyes of young, very impressionable kids.

Primarily, because young people are so impressionable, it would allow political parties to carve out future voters for themselves which is "rigging the game" in a way that I don't see as ethical. How does that quote from Ignatius go? "give me the child until they're 7, and I'll show you the adult" (highlighting the impactful nature of indoctrinating kids with ideas when they're in the formative years)

I oppose this for the same reason I oppose republican state legislatures trying to mandate the biblical 10 commandments be hung up in every classroom and injecting Christian-specific concepts into curriculums. Granted, they haven't been as bad about that in recent years as progressives have in the states they control.

Public schools are supposed to serve a very specific function, and that function isn't "get some malleable pieces of clay in here so I can shape them into a future political ally"
