  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Backyard vegetable gardens are healthy for people and the planet. Here’s how to start yours

I got my first asparagus harvest of the year! It generally keeps coming until June when all the spears shoot up into fronds. I have them in a 4 X 10 raised bed that also has lilies (bad idea as the stalks look too similar when young), a climbing rose, clematis and daylilies.

In the spring, I also put some sugar snap peas on the ends where they're easy to reach. When they are done, I just leave them be to decay and enrich the soil.

It's a shame I'm not fond of dandelion greens - we have an abundance!

I eat/propagate a lot of edible "weeds" and fungus. Due to all the recent rain, the mushrooms and fungus growing in both my yard and wooded area has been crazy! Honey mushrooms, chicken of the woods, turkey tail and oyster mushrooms have been the dominant edible species (many non-edibles, too). Hoping common purslane takes off in about a month....most delicious weed out there.
