  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Will Chuck Schumer be primaried by his own party?

Cynicism based on actual recent events...

Have they not tried to label everyone critical if Israeli funding (going in either direction, money to them, or money from their lobbying orgs) as an antisemite, and resorted to the similar talking points?
What you're doing here goes beyond cynicism. You have eyes and a brain, I presume? You can look up the things that he's said. You can decide for yourself whether they're racist or antisemitic. If you don't care to do that, that's fine, but don't go around saying that people should ignore the issue just because you personally are too lazy or disinterested to do anything other than read what other people have said about him (and you don't trust that to be accurate).

So you have no interest in actually understanding why *many* people in *both* parties think this guy is racist dirtbag? Do you have nothing to offer but "words don't mean words" interpretations of labels as nothing more than weapons type deconstructions of terminology?

This is the problem with cynically performative centrism. It stands for nothing. It has no principles.

It is no wonder that the disaffected politically gravitate toward people like Fishback. What he stands for may be disgusting, but if the others stand for nothing it has appeal.

Stand for something, lest you get trapped in pointless arguments about who the true antisemites are. (Or who is controlled by the Israeli lobby.)

I understand why people think that, it's because he's done some trolling online that people find offensive.

The reason why they think it to that degree is because of a concerted effort to shine a spotlight on it particularly for him.

Saying things that are insensitive to certainly isn't unique to him in the realm of the "old south GOP"

Yet DFMI/AIPAC friendly outlets sure seem to have vested interest in making people repeatedly aware of it in great detail for him.

If this guy was pro-Israel, the right wing outlets would be running cover for him right now and chalking it up to "the libs are just too sensitive" like they do for every other southern GOP candidate who's said unsavory things on twitter that could be easily construed as offensive to certain minority groups.

"Whoa!!! he said By'rone in a tweet... we conservatives need to distance ourselves against this sort of toxicity! By the way, did we mention that Nick Fuentes likes him"
Meanwhile
How many AIPAC approved republican congress members/candidates were retweeting Pocahontas jokes about Elizabeth Warren or posting unflattering "chest feeding" memes about Pete Buttigieg's husband and getting radio silence or getting their actions dismissed as "just a joke, lighten up".

How many times does it need to happen before it becomes a valid pattern worthy of observing?
We are aware that the pro-Israeli goes after politicians who exclaim against funding for Israel and often throw about claims of "antisemitism" against those politicians at the same time. That doesn't mean that all of the antisemetic wolves they cry out about are just against funding for Israel.
Can you name any high profile elected politician (or candidate with some traction) that's given a full-throated harsh critique of Israel funding that hasn't had oodles of money thrown at efforts to beat or unseat them?

I mentioned the Nina Turner example...

She made the critical statements in the lead up to the democratic primary (that he had been leading in by a decent margin, in most of the polls up until 2 weeks before the actual vote), and almost immediately following, Shontel Brown is gifted 2.5 million dollars worth of attack ads against Turner courtesy DMFI PAC and AIPAC. (along with some free unflattering pieces courtesy of the ADL)

I didn't think you'd go with "it just trolling". The "alt-right" has been doing this nonsense for years. They pretend that it is all just "performative" to be "edgy". It isn't those "race trolls" are *filled* with real racists. It is long time (at least by a decade) we stop giving them the benefit of the doubt and take them at their word when the post explicitly racist stuff that they are actually racists. If a few performative knobs get caught in this perhaps they'll learn their lesson and stop performing racisim they don't believe just to be "edgy".

The "mainstream" right media outlets are perfectly fine pushing racist or semi-racist ideas and politician. They have plenty of practice doing this. It would not unusual in the slightest.

Except for when it's a person who also critiques Israel. Then all of the sudden their on their high horse about such things.

Hence the reason one of the sources used in the Wiki piece you linked was Fox News's piece with the big bold headline

Shocking Attack By Florida GOP Gubernatorial Opponent: ‘Racism Has No Place In The Republican Party’

Is someone posting "By'rone" or making a charged comment about Section 8 housing really something that's "appalling and shocking" to regular consumers of Fox News?

The same Fox News that had one of their anchors call Jasmine Crockett "The Madea of Capitol Hill", and another quipping "I got my genealogy report, I'm 1% Black, where should I go to get my reparations"

This conditional moral high ground on extraneous racial issues/comments should not be interpreted as "whoa, this guy's so bad, that even conservative outlets are calling it out for how distasteful it is".

If this guy was pro-Israel, he'd probably be getting endorsed by the same conservative pundits who are pretending to be appalled.

My post didn't mention criticism of Israel. It was about Christian nationalism and white supremacy. As a political opponent of Israel, hearing about some politician who also opposes support for Israel and its current government does not set of my red flags. I'm fairly certain I read about him for the first time on one of the left-leaning social media accounts I read (and that it is not a pro-Israel account). It was his racism, white Christian nationalism, and alignment to dirtbag bigots like Fuentes that caught my attention. It was quite shocking when you mentioned Fishbach out-of-the-blue a couple days later in this thread. I didn't think you condoned his politics, but there you were passing off objections to him as just about the fight over Israel. (That might be part of the problem Schumer is dealing with and thus the subject of this thread, but that isn't why there are bipartisan objections to Fischbach in a race that is not connected to Schumer and the Senate.)

I'm glad they object, but the GOP has had a big racism problem for a while that is exemplified by their three consecutive nominations of a racist for president.

Unfortunately the average "Gutfeld!" viewer thinks it is funny will repost or forward if given the chance.

We are aware that racism is a problem on the other side of the screen at 1121 6th Avenue.

They aren't extraneous. Even among current elected GOP official, Fishback would be among the most toxically racist ones.
If this guy was pro-Israel, he'd probably be getting endorsed by the same conservative pundits who are pretending to be appalled.
Perhaps, or at least different ones. Byron Donalds has been a Trump superbooster and remains in good standing with the MAGA crowd.

From James Fishback - Wikipedia
Fishback's views have been characterized by media as white supremacist,[10][11] nativist,[58] and Christian nationalist.[59] He has been described as the first "Groyper" political candidate
We can add to the list, though patriarchy might be subsumed under Christian Nationalism.

James Fishback’s Very Weird Groyper Wedding

FAR-RIGHT FLORIDA GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE James Fishback tried his boldest campaign gambit yet on Saturday: getting married in a Catholic church to a mystery woman he met just a few months ago.

By Wednesday, the honeymoon already appeared to be over. At a press conference, Fishback urged his new wife to take the stage to answer questions, saying he expected one about her perfume. But when he realized instead that the question was about education policy, he told his bride to step away.

“Stand there and look good,” Fishback said, nudging his wife to back off. Who says romance is dead?

In an email, Fishback told me he met his wife at a Miami bookstore. They started dating three months ago, he said, adding that they connected in part over a desire to marry quickly instead of slogging through “the modern culture of mindless dating.”

While A does not necessarily imply B, B absolutely implies A.

When this appeared online on the weekend (or monday, I forget). This twerp was claiming he met, completed his priestly instruction on the proper use of a wife (or whatever it is the never married marriage counselors talk about to couple prior to marriage), and got married in an actual Catholic church. Nobody bought at all. Last I remember the "banns of marriage" had to be published for at least one Sunday before a wedding could take place.
