In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

North Carolina bill proposes classifying abortion as first-degree murder, allowing deadly force to prevent it.​


The bill grants every person the right to use deadly force to defend 'the life of another person' from 'wilful destruction', a provision that, combined with the bill's murder classification for abortion, would legally permit a third party to kill a woman seeking an abortion in the name of self-defence.

Using deadly force against a woman before she has an abortion seems worse than useless; so does doing it afterwards.

House Bill 1232, introduced on 13 May 2026 by Republican Representatives Keith Kidwell and Ben T. Moss Jr., would amend Article I of the North Carolina Constitution to declare that 'a distinct and separate human life begins at the moment of fertilisation.'​
Uh-oh! I guess all those embryos fertilized in vitro better get implanted in someone!

So...when they use deadly force against the mother this allows the child she is carrying to live? This reeks of male logic. No offense to the menfolk, but clearly the goal is to punish women not protect children. Homicide is already a leading cause of death for pregnant women. This seems like a get out of jail free card for their domestic partners.

Will ectopic pregnancies become life sentences for surgeons?

Having noble principles is all well & good; if they get in the way of other people’s freedom, though, things can get dicey.

Obviously, the incubator is malfunctioning. Possibly if you yank the fetus out of there, it can be saved.
