  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Jesus spoke of the evil eye is the passage about workers in the vineyard, working some nine hours, some one, gaining the same reward. Making the long hour workers jealous or evil eyed. They were hit hard to become the least in Heaven. Also Jesus gave the parable of the lost son, who returning home is welcomed by his Father, but disdained by his older brother. The older brother was not simply reputable but worked hard.

Sometimes persons want us stood down, demoted, or rejected, but Jesus gives grace as medicine to the sick. That is His Holy Spirit, new birth, anointing, gifting, living water as to a woman who had over time, five husbands. Some people hate sinners, but also in the church, and want them stood down if they repent and find a nice niche with God and the church, haters.

I once forgot my past sins and had the evil eye. But Jesus said, freely you have received, freely you should give. Jesus never sinned and gave the most, He is very generous. We should be grateful for His mercy on others. Praising Him. His economy is better than ours, our Scrooge like desire to be shown mercy and show hard justice to others instead.

What can be done about the evil eye, jealousy, comparisons, true identity and trying to persuade good instead of bad will?

It's about becoming more Christ-like. As Paul taught, to kill the flesh. We will always wrestle with the flesh, but we are to strive to do better and be Holy as God is Holy. So it's about effort made to change and become better. Some people don't want to change and a lot of churches teach that sanctification is passive not active but that's so wrong. You can't passively become more righteous or Holy, its about working with God to become better, think better and do better. It's saying to yourself, "no I'm not going to think like that, no I'm not going to do that, no I will not accept that".

We will never be perfect, but we are called to change and wrestle with our sinful nature to become more like Christ every day.

If people spent more time cultivating what God placed inside of them instead of watching their neighbors like monitoring spirits it wouldn't exist. All the problems you cited are outward facing. It's someone saying why them not me, entitlement or forgetting the pot doesn't dictate its purpose to the Potter. Everyone can't have 10 talents, be the smartest, prettiest, wealthiest, most popular, etc. It's a small percentage of the whole and when you look at the spectrum from least to greatest the bulk is usually in the middle.

Contentment is found in recognizing ones place in the body and viewing the totality with awe. You don't have to be a hand to make a difference if He made you an eye you do the best you can and glorify Him. Celebration is the tell-tale check for the heart. Can you celebrate when someone accomplishes something you crave or wish to have that's out of reach? Most people can handle the little gains but big things stretch them.

It seems envy and anger are growing in the world. Under identity politics all must be exactly equal and any benefit or favor is seen as unfair. I think this happens when people reject God and their love goes cold and their heart becomes hard.

Christ though Gods Son humbled Himself in obedience. I think pride has grown in the world and people are reluctant to bow down to anything let alone God. Its all about 'self' first as everything becomes what satifies and sooths the individual. Individual rights over all else.

Gods children should rejoice when someone is saved or comes back to God. One day the prodigal son may see someone else come home and know what that was like. It is a time to rejoice as its like a rescued child that was going to die.

I think Christs sacrificial love is a radical idea for the world. Peoples natural desire is to save self first. Without Gods grace and Christs transforming spirit we are incapable of such love and will decend into envy and comparing ourselves to others and always complaining its not fair.

What someone else has might not be what it seems.

And I have exactly all that God has for me, right now. It is His choice.

And I can love others as myself, by being glad to see them being blessed. And beware how it might not be what it seems to me. And so, pray for people to be truly deeply blessed by God.

I think the key may be in the word "true identity". What is the true identity we should be. Who are we and what should we identify with in being our best selves in the world.

I think this comes down to what we make as the basis for our identity. Either within ourselves or in Christ. Whatever idol or idea you make god is what your identity will be based on.

As human ideas of identity are fallible and lead to conflicts and culture wars. The only true source of our identity has to be outside ourselves. This is Christ who identified with us.

There are a few ideas on who Christ is, and that can effect people's morals. Jews and Christians, JWs, Catholics...

I don't think theres too much disagreement that Christ sacrificed His life in love to save us. That He became flesh and identified with us. That He emptied Himself as the Son of God to become man.

I think thats the primary message as far as our identity is concerned. That we also be willing to empty ourselves of our own identity and sacrifice ourselves in obedience to Gods will. That it is no longer I that lives but Christ that lives in me.
