  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

University of Iowa students could soon be required to take classes at the Center for Intellectual Freedom — or they won’t be able to graduate.

Republican lawmakers added a provision to a massive budget bill during a 35-hour legislative session requiring University of Iowa students to complete at least six credit hours from the center to earn an undergraduate degree. The bill now heads to Gov. Kim Reynolds’ desk.

Iowa Republicans created the Center for Intellectual Freedom to counter what they described as liberal indoctrination on college campuses.

The nonprofit Common Sense Institute reported student interest and enrollment was low — with just eight students in one class.

“We saw that no students really wanted to participate in that program, but this legislation will require families who are paying for college education for their kids, which is not cheap, that they would be forced to take these freedom classes,” Sen. Petersen said.

Get the official indoctrination or lose funding for school, kids!
Whatever happened to “small-government-conservatism”?

Where is the intellectual freedom in being forced to take a right-wing propaganda class?
The students who are attending under duress will become more committed to their beliefs and the complaints at dorm conversations will increase liberal ideas.

The ones who already believe the propaganda will think it's a time waster, at most an easy A since they know the talking points.

Years ago creationists launched the "question evolution" campaign, to disrupt biology classes.
Maybe left leaning students should return the favour and question every statement every assumption, every propaganda trick.
Intellectual freedom goes both ways, after all.

Creationism (“intelligent design“) is faith dressed-up in the nomenclature of science; thus, not “science”.

It could be taught in college, as an elective.
it could be mentioned in primary and secondary schools but not as a class, (to my mind).
