  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If you have a parent brother sister, you can feel their loving gestures,
a hug a kiss a nice word,
the bible says the Holy Spirit is a comforter,
one loving gesture from him, can melt you, give you decades of hope and encouragement, and a unforgettable memory.
however most christians are like, and this is something that make me rage a bit,
that are "feelings"...., "stick to scripture".... so if the bible says the Holy Spirit is a comforter, how exactly he is going to comfort you without you feeling anything??.

I once had a Christian counselor tell me, "Your feelings don't matter". Which I thought was odd, because what I was feeling at the time was nothing that went against scripture.

I wasn't sure, but is that the direction you were asking?

I look at it this way, Christians are people, people can be wrong. Even people that are very sure of something can still be totally wrong about it...including Christians.

It is strange, I've noticed that many Christians in the "feelings don't matter" camp are some of the first to decide feelings matter very much when their own feelings get hurt or offended.

Now, if whatever you are feeling goes against scripture, then go with scripture. Like I may feel that I want to yell at the guy that cut me off in traffic. But that is against scripture, so I don't do it. However, I can remember being happy as a boy when my grand mom would give me a hug. Anything wrong with that? Nope not at all. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the positive examples you mention IMO.

I think the message of "Don't pay attention to un-Biblical feelings" sometimes either gets misstated or misheard as "Don't pay attention to ANY feelings."

I think the missing context is weight and focus in relation to emotions. The Holy Spirit isn't unfeeling or imbalanced but the way we respond to Him or interpretive His directives can be. Much like the same can occur with other humans. In my personal experience He addresses me through the spirit or my thoughts. Which doesn't mean emotion isn't a factor but they aren't my go-to and the others are.

I find it curious that the same people that says "stick to scripture"
seem to have aversion, to casting demons out, gifts etc, and "experiences" when the scripture says the church will do these things.
Is your barbed comment directed at me? If it is, why don't you have the decency to address me personally? Or are you a keyboard coward, hiding behind your computer screen?
