Then that had to change into the new Donroe Doctrine, where we only get into wars in the Western Hemisphere.

Now with Iran, 'America First' has morphed into trillions to be spent overseas.

My understanding of what went down during "project freedom" was that two u.s. naval ships came under fire, and they successfully shot down the missiles and drones, and helped with their presence, along with air support etc. to escort two ships out of the strait of Hormuz. So at least 1498 ships left to escort. So did the USA cut and run? or is there really an agreement that is close? While some see the first scenario as anti-American, I do not. Why? because it could be that the Iranians are not degraded enough to reopen the strait safely. If this is the case, then a pause to plan additional bombings and clear more of the coastline is a good thing. The other alternative is better, that an agreement can be reached. That seems far too optimistic to me but we will see how things play out soon enough.

The following merchant ships were hit May 4 or 5.

CMA CGM San Antonio: A Maltese-flagged container ship operated by the French company CMA CGM was struck by a cruise missile on May 5 while transiting the strait. The attack resulted in injuries to several crew members and damage to the vessel.
HMM Namu: A Panamanian-flagged cargo ship operated by South Korea’s HMM sustained an engine room explosion and fire while anchored off the UAE on May 4. While the crew was uninjured, the cause was initially debated between an external attack and a technical fault.
Barakah: An ADNOC-operated tanker was reportedly hit by two Iranian drones off the coast of Oman on May 4. No injuries were reported as the vessel was empty at the time.

It is true that 6 or so small Iranian boats were destroyed, so that is helpful. The reality remains that traversing the strait for any merchant ship remains dangerous. Some crews too have voted and refuse to traverse the strait. Others are waiting to disembark their ships which contractually they have the right to do so in many cases but the logistics are holding many back from leaving. To me the only question is what will the next escalation entail besides trying to disarm the strait attackers. (this is assuming an agreement can't be reached).

What should have happened years ago was to get the Iranianuans to sign a treaty to limit their development of nukes.

And have inspectors going in to make sure those Nogoodniks didn’t just tear up the treaty.

I guess you can’t trust foreigners.

Negotiate a non aggression pact. Granted that will be tough because no one trusts America but if an honest broker can be found it is a least worth a try.
