  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

73 days - wow - what has the Democratic Party gained?
The moral victory of not being complicit in the wickedness being perpetrated by ICE and CBP under Trump's direction. The lingering possibility of being able to reform those agencies in a bipartisan fashion.

At what cost - thousands of families struggling to pay bills - but still coming to work several million travelers missing flight, having muli hour wait times - the cost to every day people. Are they saluting and supporting their 'moral victory, as they struggle to pay their bills.

Gotta question someone's morals who would purposely do that .

Would you vote for the Party that caused the hardship for a moral victory or the party that got you paid through other means?

You inability to answer the question is duly noted.
Trump's party is the party of hardship. We're all paying higher prices as inflation ticks upward and the price of gas hits a four year high. Ask the farmers who voted for him. Ask the thousands of people he laid off in the government. Where were your crocodile tears for them?

Elon Musk agrees: Trump’s economic plans will lead to ‘hardship’

[Trump's] wealthy allies are promoting the idea of economic collapse and high prices as a necessary side effect of Trump’s economic agenda

Yes, and you will too.

How are those gas prices coming along? Have we liberated the Iranian people yet?

There's no funding for ICE as yet.
There's also no funding for Customs and Border Protection (CBP). This coupled with the Democrats refusal to fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement leaves our country vulnerable with regard to national security.

Technically,it is Treason.
Those who refuse to fund those departments need to be arrested as Traitors. Something the Constitution permits, and then held to the highest punishment.

Trump's party is the party of hardship.
"As we have demographic challenges, as we have lower birth rates, an aging workforce, less immigration, we're going to need people to do more work," Sen. Jon Husted [R-OH] said in a clip shared by independent journalist Aaron Rupar.

"Why do we have those things, Jonny? Who did that? Was it your party, Jonny?" [some guy on the internet] wrote on X, adding, "Did your party spend decades shooting down paternity leave, universal pre-k, child care, and demonizing all immigrants?"

Oh, the Drama… All the administration has to do is shape up DHS. They can’t even fire people normally. Noem is still living rent free in federal property because nobody in the Trump camp knows how to evict a squatter.
We know she’s broke and has some interesting relationships but, her tenure exposes all manner of incompetence in this administration. Democrats didn’t make the GOP incompetent.

the Democrats have offered funding to the non-ICE/CBP parts of DHS several times and it has been rejected by Republicans.

Johnson says Democrats’ pitch to fund DHS without ICE, CBP would ‘defund the police’

Apparently he doesn't like it, but the Democrats have offered this several times.
And finally, the House takes yes* for an answer.

After months of resistance, the House on Thursday passed the Senate-backed Department of Homeland Security funding bill, which funds all agencies inside DHS except immigration enforcement operations.

The bill passed via voice vote. There was no recorded vote requested.

The measure now heads to President Donald Trump's desk now for signature

Republicans are working on a separate budget bill to fund those agencies through reconciliation, a process that will allow them to pass legislation without any Democratic support.

"Democrats got absolutely nothing for their political charade and shenanigans," Johnson said on Thursday.

[Republicans got absolutely nothing for their months long delay in accepting the inevitable, except for stressed DHS employees.]

From the article:

While the package funds most of DHS -- the Transportation Security Administration, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Coast Guard, the Secret Service and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency -- it does not include funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and parts of Customs and Border Protection.
Is that not what the Dems had been asking for from day one?

Technically,it is Treason.

Except it's not.

Those who refuse to fund those departments need to be arrested as Traitors. Something the Constitution permits, and then held to the highest punishment.
The Constitution permits, but greatly restricts, the definition of treason. They did so because they were aware of how rulers would define treason broadly in order to go against people they didn't like--such as, for example, declaring someone a traitor just for not passing a law you thought was important to defense.

Thus, the Constitution says:

"Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort."

So, is not passing a bill to fund a department, even if it is important for defense, levying war against the United States? No. Even if one accepts that it's leaving the country vulnerable, that's not levying war. Is it adhering to its enemies and giving them aid and comfort? No. Even if this leaves the country vulnerable, it clearly isn't adhering to enemies (which it should be noted need to be officially declared enemies, i.e. someone you're at declared war with).

Far from permitting a charge of treason for this, the United States Constitution went out of its way to ensure a treason charge couldn't occur for something like this.
