  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So are we going to blame Kamala Harris for the shooting? How convenient for Donald. It deflects attention from Donald's war. Disclaimer: I'm not a Democrat.

Whenever something like this happens who's side the shooter or bomber or whatever is/was on is considered important. In this case, it looks like the shooter is a Democrat.

No, this way is better, so that when it gets locked, the topic won’t be lost.

I watched the footage on TV. When the shots rang out, people panicked, stood up and moved out. Trump however was not panicked, was unperturbed, just sat there as if he knew what was going on. I find it all a bit suspicious.

We're not supposed to complain about threads or campaign aginst them. We're supposed to either stay on topic or keep quiet and hit the report button.

Perhaps at 78 he's a bit hard of hearing.

First, it is routine for the media to seek out who the shooter is and what a possible motive could be. It's important do discover in order to prevent future shootings. I've spoken out before about the political climate and the violent rhetoric by many leaders who hate Trump and anyone who supports Trump. It is no secret that the last administration targeted devout Catholic and pro-lifers and moms who would speak up at school board meetings. And I maintain that those targets were misplaced, that we should not ignore the hard left/radical Islamist coalition that continually puts out violent rhetoric. Mayor Frey of Minneapolis was there at the dinner, perhaps it will give him some second thoughts about his past actions.

I had already guessed that the attacker wasn't a Trump supporter. Beyond that, I'm willing to wait a few days and let the police do their investigative job. Lots of people have political opinions. What motivated this guy to pick up a gun? I'll be following the news reports. The NY Times has been covering it pretty well.

No we should not blame Kamala but it is evident that irresponsible rhetoric from SOME on the the left is a factor. Three attempts that we know of is not the work of the right.

You don't think it's possible that someone could be motivated to try to kill the President based solely on his own words and actions?

Exactly. Some of the political leaders and some of media clearly fuel the hatred.

Of course it is possible, but realize people are bombarded with all kinds of misrepresentations about Trump and his supporters day after day. What is that saying "A lie goes round and round world while Truth is putting on her boots." And those on the fringe hear it. Combine this with the attempts to weaken security. Secret Service personnel have not been funded for71 days (they have been able to get money to some of the front liners) but the longer it goes on the more will be forced to take other jobs.

I think Trump presents himself well enough. His Truth posts and press conferences are enough for anyone to form a negative opinion of him.

It depends on the specific sense in which one thinks this is important. One sense in which it is certainly not important is the sense in which attempts are made to link the actions of one person to an entire group to which that person belongs. And I suspect that this is the intention of the OP.

One data point does not establish anything. My grandfather, may he rest in peace, smoked like a bandit for 70 years and lived to be 90. Is this evidence that smoking is not harmful to health? Of course not.

The fact that this shooter was a Democrat has no implications at all for the views or inclinations of Democrats in general.

What, exactly, are you saying here? Donald Trump is, primarily due to his own character, an exceedingly divisive figure. Many people dislike him and with good reason. Those of us who live outside America are shaking our heads every day at how you could have elected such a person to the office of the Presidency.

Given his obvious lack of character and qualifications for the job, many millions of people are going to hold very negative views of him. And it should be no surprise that a miniscule fraction of those will act out in unacceptable ways.

But that certainly does not mean that those who, again for excellent reasons, speak out strongly against this awful President of yours bear any responsibility for what has happened. What do you want people to do? Remain silent?

What you can claim, of course, is that anybody whose expressed views can reasonably be taken as a call to attempts to remove Mr Trump by assassination do indeed bear some responsibility.
