  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ukraine has finally given up on Trump

For more than a year after Donald Trump returned to the White House, Ukraine held out hope—at least publicly—of winning him over. Trump, who revealed his affection for Russia’s Vladimir Putin again and again, largely halted American military aid to Kyiv. He insulted Ukrainian leaders regularly, personally berating President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office in February 2025. Nevertheless, Ukraine diligently took part in Trump’s peace negotiations, which were tilted to reward Putin’s invasion and turned out to be fruitless. Zelensky agreed to mineral deals that supposedly promised to enrich Americans. He even lavishly praised Trump himself. Despite Ukrainian leaders’ growing doubts, they calculated that speaking sweetly of the American president would do no harm and just might gain his favor.

But now Kyiv appears to have given up on the United States. It is aggressively seeking new diplomatic and military partners—for instance, by sharing its hard-won expertise in drone warfare with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates and forging arms-production agreements with Germany. Ukraine has sent drones to attack oil-export facilities near St. Petersburg, deep inside enemy territory, in defiance of what Zelensky called “signals” from unspecified “partners” to avoid striking Russian energy infrastructure.

The article goes into further detail on this, but does seem to be the case. He has commented on Witkoff and Kushner going to Moscow to meet Putin, but not to Ukraine to meet him. They are now planning to, but Zelensky seems to have indicated that his meeting doesn't really mean much.

And going as far as to indicate that Europe should move on from the transatlantic relationship.

Trump really is taking US relations with its allies down the drain.

Absolutely. We (the US) are going to find ourselves cut off from NATO and other allies. And, as Canada and UK and Europe find other trading partners, we won't have a market or a supply-line.

It's gonna take years to recover from this mess.

EU unblocks €90 billion loan to Ukraine

A €90 billion ($106 billion) EU loan to Ukraine received preliminary approval from the 27 EU countries on Wednesday after several months during which Hungary exercised its veto, diplomats said.

The Cypriot EU presidency said the final approval is to be given by all the bloc's member states on Thursday.

With Europe losing supplies of gas from the middle east and Russia turning of pipelines to Europe, my expectation is that the USA will ban oil trades with Europe. So no more problems with Europe since it won't exist.

I’m sure the big American oil companies are going to voluntarily shrink their markets.

Not going to happen, it's democrats calling for a halt to oil exports. I'm just not optimistic about the situation.

More specifically, gasoline exports.

FYI

Mexico remains the largest destination by volume for gasoline exports, accounting for 486,000 b/d, or 54% of all gasoline exports. Historically, Mexico has not only consistently been the largest importer of U.S. gasoline but has also been the recipient of more than half of all U.S. gasoline exports in all but three years since we began publishing country-level export data in 1993. The next largest destinations after Mexico by share of gasoline exports in 2025 were Guatemala (6%), Colombia (5%), the Bahamas (3%), and Ecuador (3%). Over the past 10 years, Canada was the second-largest destination for U.S. gasoline exports after Mexico, but in 2025, Canada received just 22,000 b/d (about 2%) of U.S. gasoline exports—the least since 2009.
